Clutch adjustment??

Post by odgreen »

Is there an adjustment for the clutch cable? Mine seems to engage the last third of release movement and I could not find one at the clutch handle. Thanks odgreenhttps://www.amervoyassoc.org/forum/posting.php?mode=post&f=3#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The VXII uses a hydraulic clutch control, rather than a cable,thus I do not know of a way to adjust it.The fluid should be changed regularly,as it can deteriorate,as brake fluid does.You might try flushing it out with fresh fluid,and see if that helps.Do you have a manual for it?

yes sir, I have the e-copy that I downloaded from this site, yet did not find the info for the clutch that I was seeking. Alas the answer is still eluding me. Can I adjust the point at which the clutch is fully engaged, if so how? Not the first hydraulic clutch that i have fooled with, just the first on two wheels. New world for me. A good ole "Barn Find" will cause a person to travel down new paths in life and my journey has just began :clap: :hpdc:

The only adjustments you can make is to replace the fluid, make sure the little return port in the master cylinder is clear of obstruction and all debris is gone. Fill the reservoir with the proper amount of DOT 4 and work the clutch lever as you fill. If no air is in the system the clutch should work normally. I have always recommended speed bleeders be installed to keep air out of your system as you bleed it with new fluid.

I thank y'all for the info. Will replace/bleed the fluid and see if that gives it a different feel.

We-e-l-l, It could be that the clutch springs are a little short. They are not known for particularly strong springs and over time they get sacked out. That may cause late engagement. Does the clutch slip any under hard acceleration? If so, you may want to measure the spring length to see if they are within spec.

As I rode my VXII today,I noted where the clutch engaged,and it is the last 1/3 of release travel,but it seems as if it has been that way since I bought the bike almost 40000 miles ago. If it has changed,I do not notice it,it feels normal to me,and I change brake and clutch fluid ever two years. :corn:

If clutch fluid has been neglected over the years the clutch slave cylinder could have sludge in it hampering the use of the hydraulic clutch action & also the seal could be leaking fluid in to the engine. If you check fluid and it is low but find no leak.

As said clutch springs do get a lot of use and do go past their usefulness, also plates & discs could be worn.

Clutch symptoms are fairly easy to trouble shoot if you have tools and just start at the top and work down, (The clutch slave cylinder is right by the water pump & has a bleeder nipple on it. Follow the hyd hose on left side of engine by bottom frame ) Good luck with your search. Ride Safe...

Thanks for the info, Clutch has no slippage and fluid level is good. I will just have to get use to it I guess, always had my clutch working during the middle of travel not either end.
