I changed out the 1156 turn signal bulbs (rear) because the LED's have a MTBF of 20,000-50,000 hours (2.3-5.7 years of continuous on-time), whereas the 1156 bulbs have a MTBF of 1,500-5,000 hours (63-208 days, or roughly 2-7 months of continuous on-time). I should never need to change these out in my lifetime.

To put this into perspective, I have owned my used '93 bike since 2010, and I have already had to replace the 1157 tail/brake light bulbs with only 12,000 miles of riding since buying it. On my '79 Honda 750 (9,600 miles when I bought it), I had to replace all of the 1156, 1157, and 194 dash bulbs (winked out, one by one), and that bike had 23k miles on it when I sold it; assuming the bulbs were OEM from the factory, they lasted around 12,000-15,000 miles before failing. The LED's should eliminate the bulb replacements every 2-4 years (this is roughly how long the filament bulbs last with Summer use only), to nothing, nada, for the next 20 years, which may be when I get a Can-Am Spider to tour on... Cheers!
