Dashboard lights

So over the winter, I am doing a lot of things to my bike. One of the things is I want to change all the bulbs in the dash board to new LEDs. Or at least put new ones in to brighten it up.

Does anyone know what the bulb sizes are for the speedometer, tach and the idiot lights (turn signals, oil, high beam, etc,) on the dash?

On a side note, my 50cc scooter friend finally bought a motorcycle!! So I am no longer stuck in 3rd gear when riding with him lol. He bought an '86 Honda Rebel 450.

This is the post I made with all that I used on my conversion.
Note, I tried to change colors of my dash by installing Red LED bulbs. It worked great but I didn't like the way the dash lost it's multi color display. It ended up all one color. I went with the Sylvania bright white and love them. much brighter than OEM but not too bright for night riding. Also note that the dash has a cover inside that gives off a green glow. It wasn't so noticable with the dimmer OEM bulbs but with the brighter Sylvania bulbs, it turned the dash a very cool Kawasaki race green. I love it.

It looks good with the Kaw green to it. I can't wait to do mine. Debating on doing it before winter to get rides in with it lit.

... just curious, can't you just remove the headlight and reach in to remove/replace
dash lites? TIA

I can't say for sure but it would be pretty tight in there. would hate to pull a wire loose because of not having proper space to work. doesnt' take long to pull the headlight and take a peak.

Nope, in order to access all the bulbs you need to remove the entire assembly and that requires removal of all the plastic and radio. It's not a fun quick job.

IMHA it would be a winter project. I have had my radio and cluster out several times on both bikes. Not an easy job for me. Practically the whole front end has to come apart. I think the stock lights are just fine and wouldn't mess with it unless there is a problem which I had. I may do it again to update my radio by Pete Franchi . But not looking forward to it. Doing it the first time really sucks, everytime after gets a little easier. Carl and Pete are pros at it. Not me.

Also if you don't do it right you can break things. Very tricky job if you haven't done it before. There's a sequence and order to it.

Peter has a video out there that shows him pulling the fairing and removing the radio. Very well made and takes a lot of guess work out of what needs to be removed and what doesn't. I find it fairly easy and straight forward to remove. Had mine off several times. I had to replace the trip odometer in my instrument cluster so I decided to change bulbs at that time while I already had it apart. otherwise I might not have done it. I was fine with the stock bulbs but once it was apart, why not make changes while I could. Glad I took the time to do it. I love the new look and brightness of the new bulbs.

I did LEDs on my 95 and had some issues: The headlight light stayed on, though it was dim. The fuel light was the same. The worst was the neutral light. Worked fine as long as the clutch was pulled, but came on as soon as you let it out no matter what gear I was in. Put the regular bulbs back in and everything works as it should. The other indicators all worked fine.

I used blue for the background lights and didn't care for it. Washed out the gauges, and made the needles harder to see.
