Adding Cruise Control

I was able to add a working cruise control to my 1300.
The one I picked was a universal mount for a 80something car found on ebay for under a hundred bucks.
This one has all the electronics in the servo and a flush mounted control.
With a little fandangling I was able to mount the servo in the fairing so as not to close to a hot engine .Ran the cable out the existing hole for the intercom Y cord .
Pretty straight forward hook ups to brakes, coil and intake vacuum,attaches to throttle linkage with a small loop cable (looks like a fishing leader).That part was tough cause not much room to work around .
Holds the speed within a couple mph and is oh so nice on the super slab.

I have seen some newer models on ebay that would probably work and they have a much smaller servo.

Bill, certainly not ignoring your thread here!! You have inspired me to look into several aftermarket controls. Delta used to sell a nice system for cars through Heathkit, but they probably worked too well, so they discontinued them! They also took too much vacuum to work well with the Honda GL1000, so i had to add a vacuum reservoir. I like the new fast acting servo-powered units being used today. The first time I tried the Delta on my 'Wing it took so much vacuum that it made the bike burp every time I would activate it. And, trying to maintain speed up a steep hill made it run downright sick! And that's not the good kind of sick!
Still lots of higher priority projects happening on my 1300, but will post when I get around to doing the cruise!

I have one sitting on my kitchen table that I keep telling myself it should get installed soon.
I put one on my first one and needed no reservoir.
The problem I see with the newer models is that many of them do not have the adapters to install to the throttle linkage . That and the fact that they are 3 times the price .

I used to surf the Concours forums where a number of them have added a cruise control to their 1400s, built by Audiovox, believe it or not. I am told it adapts very easily.

I am told the cruise button on dash is for mileage, NOT for a cruise control....
Is that true ? ?

Yes it is true . That is only a cruise mode and not a cruise control .
I found the cruise control I pictured on fleabay and they do not come up often .
You may be able to find a newer model but just make sure it will operate off the throttle cable and not the electronics.
There is plenty of vacuum on that big 6 to operate one well .

Can someone tell me how, why, or what the button does and how it works ? ?

The cruise mode simply adjusts the fuel/air mix to help with highway mileage.
I leave mine on all the time and have never been at a lose for power when I needed it.
Most of the time you should see about a 2 mpg increase over what you get without.

Although I have never seen one with a separate regulator and not all parts are shown ,this unit will probably work.

Personally I would find a better place for the control than on an arm like that.
I probably should note that many of the ones that look like they will work are missing a control and you have to buy it separate.

that is an electronic one as what I read from member should be vacuum unit...
Maybe a flip friction unit is needed...

Yup . You are correct .
I notice now there is no throttle cable on it.
Sorry . I guess I should look a little closer next time .
