YAMAHA VENTURE?
What is eveyone's option of a 1987 Yamaha Venture? I have found a Venture Royal fully loaded, for 2800.00 is it worth it??

Re: YAMAHA VENTURE?
You might want to check the availability of parts before you spend the money.
I have been told the Venture is an extremely comfortable ride ,but harder to find parts for than a 1300 Voyager.

Re: YAMAHA VENTURE?
The second gear trouble was surely a biggie for the 1983 model, but that was taken care of for the rest. Since the bike really had no changes from 1984 thru the 1992 you should find parts like we do now for the Voyager. And yes there are several forums based on this bike.

Re: YAMAHA VENTURE?
Neal, I have owned several Yamaha's in the past. v-stars and most recently a 1998 Royal Star. The Royal star we rode all the way to Yellow stone and back. The Venture Royal is a 1987 model with 83,000 miles in very good shape. Really better then my Voyager. Is there anybody looking for a Voyager out there. I would ask 3200.oo for it???

The 2nd gear transmission problems were 1983-1985 models. Don't believe me? Google it yourself

Re: YAMAHA VENTURE?
Jack, for $2800 and if it is in good shape, what can you lose? If it is running, ride it and enjoy it. If it later craps out then you can always part it out and get your money back. I don't see a bad situation here. My first real motorcycle (not a 50cc putt putt) was a Yamaha and I loved their quality. Unfortunately in my advanced years I haven't seen anything in the new machinery they have that moves me to purchase one. Sometimes I wish these manufacturers wanted to seduce us older riders as well as the millennials.

Re: YAMAHA VENTURE?
Originally they took the remaining 1200 motors, (after they decided to go with a newer 1300) changed the induction system, and put them in a different frame, calling it a v-max. Not envisioning what it would become. Then they simply had to keep upgrading it from there. There are however many newer ideas that some of us did use on the original Venture. Now THAT was really what we called a POWER TOURER....

Hey Jack, been looking at all of the Yam Ventures advertised online ,and am finding that $2800. is on the high side for a 80's bike,

Re: YAMAHA VENTURE?
In the first "for sale" ad that I posted ....I noticed that the guy mentioned that the thing he liked MOST about the bike, was that "he sat down INTO the bike"
I have not yet rode a Yam Ven, but that is one thing that I would like more than my wings or my Voyager , dont get me wrong ....my Voyager is a AWESOME bike and I LOVE riding it , and especially it's bullet proof dependability ! but I DO wish the seating arrangement was more suitable to us guys over 6'.
I would like to sit DOWN more INTO my bike ...but that seems to be impossible with the given structure of this voyager XII machine!
Maybe I will go act like I'm interested in the Yam Ven that is for sale near me ....just to make a comparison of the two bikes......
Maybe NEAL could chime in here ,and say wether the seating arrangement is better on the YAM VEN than the Kaw XII..............is there a reason that NEAL had 6 Yam Vens ? and now does not have one ?

Re: YAMAHA VENTURE?
Some of the reason is folks used to kid me about driving truck so I could go to Yamaha dealers all across the country looking for parts for my Ventures.
At that time I could buy NEW parts for our NEW Voyagers

Hello Jack ! ....yes , I have a spare alternator ....but NO it is NOT for sale ! I take ot with me when I go on my out of state trips ! Gene Kap takes a spare set of alt. brushes with him..... but I would like just changing out the alt as a assembly ,as opposed to tare down. hope I never need it !
