Winter Service

I just finished up winter service today Now,when does the weather allow for riding to resume? I have not had the VXII out for a whole month now!

My riding season will likely start in April. I will do the prep-work on the bike then -- usually too busy to do much in the Fall, and never motivated to do it, then, either. Not much to do, though: change fork oil, engine oil, and install the LED headlight bulb. Then she should be ready for pretty much everything. Cheers!

Got a god start on mine...Oil changed, new rear tire, upgraded AM/FM, LED lights everywhere I can new saddlebag lid tethers, and chrome front fender flap. Should have no problem having everything lined up to leave for the first ride on Feb, 24th for Mardi Gras

Your WAY ahead of me Loren ! I pulled my 3 amp fuse out of the fuse panel, took off my sheepskin seat cover....and that's about it !
Not much needed this year other than fluids changed and inspections ....bike was running great at the end of the season....don't look like were gonna be doing any lucky off season riding here in Ohio anytime soon


And NEAL..... by the time I SEE your bike again .....it will be filthy ! .....so we won't know IF you really did clean it ! .......................Tony

Sounds good Loren ! I have been fighting the effects of a winter cold for the past couple of weeks,, starting to feel a bit better now,...... better judgement will keep me OFF the bikes till it gets MUCH warmer outside.

Changed engine oil and filter. Finally changed the oil in the rear shocks. Installed some LED bulbs and drained the carbs for the winter. First year I put both bikes to bed for the winter. Fork springs and other fluids changed last spring, so we should be set for riding when we get back North sometime mid March. Riding season here before you know it.

Weather did provide for riding this weekend.I got in 57 miles on Saturday,93 on Sunday. The bike is running great, and ready for some real miles .I do want to make some saddlebag lid tethers before I consider winter service complete,I have read it is not easy to repair lids that 18 wheelers have run over.

YES LOREN ........I too got a chance to ride the Voyager 88 miles in JANUARY this past weekend ! I took some pics of the ride,( but don't feel like going thru the hassle of posting them right now ) YES in northern OHIO ! ....somehow , I think were gonna pay for that RARE TREAT !.......... ..............Tony

Yes it was great weather in the Midwest this past weekend. I was chomping at the bit to get the bike out, but I'm still working on my kids condo remodeling. I have a standing promise that they will be out of my house and into their own place by the months end. I just watched the other bikes with envy while I was worked away on cabinet and counter top installs. I did manage to start the bike and let it run for a bit.

How do you like those stainless steel brake lines?

Yes,Don,Thanks for asking.I do have noticeably more front brake lever travel left, after application,before the lever hits the handlebar .I also have more clutch lever distance when the clutch releases,although that was not a concern.Yes,I am glad I changed all the lines over.I do notice less difference in the rear brake,as that line is much shorter. :perfect10:I now probably only use 1/3-1/2 of the front lever travel on a hard stop,where I used to use 3/4 -7/8 of the travel.

The weather was not rider friendly today ,so I made and installed my saddle bag lid tethers. Now I am ready for more riding
