has anyone installed the alley cat air filter system on their 1700? if so,were you happy with results? any noticeable horsepower increase? increase or decrease in fuel mileage? intake noise louder? looking for more horsepower.would I be better off spending my money on the reflash that is available ,and forget about the air filter upgrade. iam sure the reflash works but just curious if anyone has good results with the alley cat system..

Re: alley cat air filter
Here is one of those heck yes, guys.
I have a 2012 Voyager with 120,000 plus miles on the odo. This past September I rode up to Ivan's shop and had the re-flash done. But before that I'd been using a K & N air filter. Then late 2015 I installed the Cobra Tri-Oval mufflers and the Cobra fuel management system. After adjusting the fuel management system to suit me, the power and fuel mileage increased. At the time I bought the Cobra parts the Rocky Mountain Kawasaki dealer said just remove the air inlet snorkel and drill some holes in the back air filter housing. So not to create a lot of unwanted noise. "I do a lot of touring and noise is bad".
After the re-flash was complete I was talking with Ivan and I told him about the snorkel I'd removed "I never did drill the holes in the air filter housing". Ivan told me to replace the snorkel, that even with the re-flash the Voyager 1700 engine is to lean. Ivan also told me to remove the fuel management system. The good thing for me is I got the system that you can adjust manually. It has three dials, so I just turned the dials back to 0 from the 4.5 where I had them set.
But this season I'm going to play with the fuel management system and start adding a bit more fuel to the engine.
With the re-flash the V-twin engine now feels and acts like a proper twin overhead cam engine. Twist the throttle just a bit at 70 mph and the engine revs. No lag, it just jumps. So just do the re-flash, unless you want to look cool.

Re: alley cat air filter
I compared the Kuryakyn Alley Cat to the brand I eventually bought and installed, Roaring Toyz intake. Since the Kuryakyn was chromed plastic versus the billet aluminum Roaring Toyz, I felt the longevity was worth the higher cost.
