common damage point

Post by ekap1200 »

Hello all, Good to be back after about a year. Put 40hrs in and still got to do 20.5 hrs out in my shop this week. For those of you that were prayin for me, thanks. Seems funny not to see ash trays all over the place. Done a few different jobs and set up for some brake forming , and a customer sent me a photo of this little stainless beauty.
Doe's any one know who made this up ?
Would you know of any one who could use these.
I had thought of these the first time I bought a new upper for 625.00 , My bike ; had just toppled over and put a 3/4 long crack in it. I would have bought these ... But that was long before I was aware of the AVA.
Neet idea- I think :perfect10:

Congratulations on being back. However, I'm kinda new so I'm not sure I noticed you were gone :gig:

I'd be interested in those, especially if they could be had in black. The corner of my left fairing is gone, and I needs a way to fix it.

I would love to have a couple of these. I have already dropped the bike before and bought the colorite pens to help cover up the damage but these would do nicely. Send me a pm and tell me what you want for a couple and I will send you a check out of my on line banking. No need to send them till you get the check.

Gee I was hoping to find out who made these. I can't seem to sell what I have in stock. Sockets and inserts are all I have been making these days ,and can't seem to keep any in stock of those. Adding another item may not be in the cards.
These caps would be no easy task, and would likely need a weld on both sides of the u-channel after forming. Doable but at what cost.
Anyway I have two fender skirts to do, and about 6 sets of vent trim to do . So that should keep me busy for a few weeks in the evenings.
I did start to repair the trailer hitch damage from my accident, and repaired the droopy rear view mirror on the left side this past Sunday. It went well, I used option #2. remove the bezel holding the glass. I had 2 broken mirrors here to practice on.
Hitch damage was minor and straightened right up, prep and paint, and all will be good.
I just want to ride, I am tired of this cold weather.....

That's ok Gene. I am still showing off the fender skirt you sent me. If you get too busy you are going to have to hire out help. Thanks anyway.

An alternative

If you aren't too fussy about appearances ... Mine had a gaping crack when I bought it, but I was surprised to find that it could be closed with some strategicly-placed string and a tight clove hitch. I used a dremel with a wire brush to make a little channel along the crack -- wasn't trying to do much more than get through the cracked paint. ABS glue, applied with a toothpick, filled it nicely (I did both sides), and so far it's held up swell. It sanded out fine.
So, instead of a gaping crack, now I have a black line. I can live with that. But I decided to paint all the plastics anyway. (Had about 5 million other cracks, too.)
Honestly, finding out about ABS cement has been the best thing I've come across on this forum.
