Shell Rotella Motor Oil

Post by Highway Rider »

So here it is again was going to change the oil in my 1200 and was wonder if any one knew the difference between the Rotella T and the T4 I see that the T6 and the T5 are synthetic.
I had been using the Rotella T but the Wal-Mart sore that I was at only had the t4 and t5 I can still get the Rotella T but just not where I was

Getting ready to do an oil change myself. I went to the Shell website and Rotella T is no longer listed. From what I can tell the T4 is the replacement for Rotella T with a new updated formula. Going to go with the T4 here.

I ran into the same thing - used T I believe on the last oil change for the Voyager, then when a month later for the ST, and all I can find is T4. Seems to be working fine in the ST, so I'll probably use it for the next change on the Voyager. Maybe spend the little extra for the synthetic.

Be careful on the viscosity... I ran the Full Synthetic T6, for a while, but then I started having shifting issues. The T6 is 5W-40, so it is too thin, when cold (manual specifies 10W as the thinnest to use, regardless of temperature). I switched back to the 15W-40 T, and my false neutral issues disappeared. I had been getting false neutrals between 2-3, 3-4, and 4-5, intermittently. All of that went away after I went back to a 15W-40 oil (Rotella T, of course). Just my two copper's. Cheers!
