Questions about adding a USB port

Right now getting ready to re-install the instrument cluster and stereo system with bluetooth upgrades (TY Pete Franchi). Thinking of adding a USB charging port using the accessory leads that come from the wiring harness behind the headlight mounting area. Is it okay to use these leads for this, or should I add an extra relay block and go from there? Also, where are you guys mounting your charging ports?

If you happen to use a Battery Tender you could purchase their usb charger adapter.

... or, as Gina's previous owner did, take a Battery Tender mating plug,
splice it to a 12V cig lighter socket, put it in the right hand dash compartment,
add a 12V to USB adapter and power about anything.. FWIW

I mounted two cigarette lighter sockets, one behind the door below the louver vent on the left side and one in the storage trunk. I ran a cable about the same size as the battery cable from the positive battery terminal going under the seat to the storage trunk and another wire out of the trunk to a ground. I use that cable to use a battery tender and if you do have a low battery and need a boost you can use that instead of taking the cover in front of the seat off. It's come in handy for me at least once that way.

TY for the responses. I'd picked up a Battery tender USB adapter, which I think I'll make that work on my other bikes, but was looking to set up something a little more usable up front that has a waterproof cover.

Might check into boat accessories. I haven't looked myself, but that's where I would start. I bet they have a USB charging point that would be water proof or a cover on it.

I mounted a cigarett lighter port along with a power switch for it, where the left door for the CB radio connection is. My bike doesn't have the CB so this was a great open spot for it. I also installed and switched dual USB port inside the right hand glove box, plus another dual usb port inside the box on top of the right hand saddle bag cover for the wife to plug in her phone. I added a sub panel block under the false tank and powered it with a relay from the right hand turn signal. All of my excessories are now powered off this sub block with the exception of the port in the right hand glove box. I wanted to leave this one hot so I can charge thing while the bike is off. Powering everything else, (power ports, running lights, ect.) through the sub panel makes sure that while starting the bike, I have limited power draw from excesories because the turn signals are not powered until the bike is started.

I found a cellphone/GPS holder on Fleabay that had a USB port on it. Put it on the bars (Took out one of the plugs where the stem mirrors would be) wired it so that the USB was active key on (it had an LED illuminator on it) works good. Wasn't real expensive either.
