Ha,Ha OMG. That new bike euphoria wore off real fast. Before I tell you the full story the skinny is. This 1994 Voyager ran good one day then wouldn't start and would only run while spraying into the carburetors. The tires look dry rotted and she may have been sitting up longer than I was told. Also, none of the dealers, or independent cycle shops want to work on her. So, I appear to be on my own with this. Hope someone can help me a bit.
The full story for you reading enjoyment. I'm an enthusiast adventure rider. Got back into riding 10 years ago on a KLR. Lots of wrenching on that bike put 36k on her in 2.5 years in the twisty mountains, mostly leaned over going as fast as I could make that "prefect" corner, about 40mph. haha THen got a VStrom then a GS. My girl friend wanted a more comfortable bike that was not 7 feet high like my BMW GS 1200. I found this Cherry looking voyager that would give her the kind of ride she wanted. I rode this 1994 Cherry Voyager for an hour or so in a wide variety of roads. It idled well, smooth acceleration and braking. The handling was what I expected from this age and style of bike. Rode her home and was planning of taking a trip to the mountains in two days with my girlfriend. The next day I was taking it for new tires BUT it wouldn't start. Blah. The day before it started immediately and it wasn't already warmed up. I checked. Haven't done anything to try to fix it except take off the air intake and sprayed some carb cleaner in it. It ran well when I did that. I called a round to a couple of dealers and a independent cycle shop. They didn't want to touch it. I figured I'd call a few more and a few more no one wanted to deal with a bike that old. They said stuff like electrical rats nest, dry rotten lines, etc.. This bike looks beautiful. Not a scratch on it and only 18k.

The bikes are not, say again, NOT hard to work on with some basic skills.

I was a newb to these bikes up until about 14 months ago, bought one when my Victory was stolen. Was hooked. Instantly.
Not running, hit the basics first, fire, fuel and air.
Check your fuel pump, filter and carbs. If its been sitting it could be any of those easy.
For what its worth, people here are VERY FRIENDLY and SHARE ADVICE like crazy. Trust me, Vtwin guy... got converted quick.

Twisty Dave, look in my signature for manuals for the XII. First thing I would check since it has a fuel pump is to make sure the pump is working and the fuel filter next to it is not clogged. The filter can be replaced with a John Deere filter you can find on the dollar for dollar page off the home page. If the fuel pump is working then check the spark. You say you can make it run shooting carb cleaner into the intake so I can assume that it is getting fire. I know is seems stupid but make sure you have gas in the tank. Ask as many questions here as you like. Lots of people on here can help you identify the problem.

Check the air filter also. Mice have been known to like to make nests in there. That would keep it from running.

Haven't heard anything from you. Did you get her running? I would believe your problem is in the fuel pump. When you hit the start button the pump will start running. Check all fuel lines to make sure they are not pinched. Check that you are getting power to the pump. Could be as simple as a loose or dirty wire connection or the fuse under the false tank cover. This sounds like a pretty easy fix. If there was old fuel in the tank or it was left empty for a long period of time there could be rust forming in the tank that flaked off and is plugging up the works. look at the filter. Is it loaded with rust? Could be a bigger problem. Might have to have the tank cleaned and sealed. That would require removal to do correctly and is a pretty big job to get it out.
