Yet another radio question
I searched and couldn't find anything so here goes...
86 model. The radio worked up until a 20 km logging road ride (Voyager ADV?) Since then I've lost all but battery (clock) power in the radio. I swapped in the known working radio from my parts bike (2000 model year) and still only have battery power, the clock is on but nothing else. This leads me to believe that something has come loose/detached on the bike end of the harness somewhere. I have checked all 4 fuses (2 on the radio, one on the amp and the 3amp in the fusebox) and all test good. I also swapped in the amplifier from the parts bike and still no change. All the connectors are clean and seem to be contacting well. Anyone have any ideas what else to look for? I also have no power to the CB but honestly I don't know if I ever did even when the radio was working.

Re: Yet another radio question
I have no power to the white/yellow stripe wire which I believe is power to the amplifier and runs through the bigger of the two fuses at the back of the radio unit. Fuse is good. Looking at the wiring diagram it gets power at the acc relay so I swapped the relay from the parts bike and still no change. I'm stumped and think I'm just going to put it all back together and resign to the fact that I have no radio.

.. a cheap volt / ohm meter can tell Ya a LOT!!! You don't hafta get cute and
tell how much volts or ohms Ya have, you have a path / volts or not! Maybe
get one and start finding volts and where it stops? JM2C

Re: Yet another radio question
Have one, did that. No power anywhere on the w/y wire at any of the connectors I could find. It disappears into the main loom and I really don't want to start unwinding that just yet.

This is a link to a thirty minute video of the radio removal.

Good luck it is pretty involved.

Re: Yet another radio question
Hi, I had the same problem any time I was off center to the right. My problem was a broken wire (blue w/white stripe) about 2" from the key switch. I believe that this a the accessory turn on wire. That is why the clock works and you don't lose radio presets. Hope this helps!

You have the Kawasaki Clarion Audio Systems Troubleshooting Manual, P/N 99924-1088-01, no? Somewhere I downloaded it sometime ago. It will help you troubleshoot, Someone had posted some time back that there is an inherent weakness on the bike, wiring harness is strained somewhere near the steering bearing area. Sometimes wires get broken in that area. I can't tell you much because I haven't done anything in that area yet. Brown and White wiring is the "Audio". (I think the Brown/White powers the memory circuits and clock on the radio when key is turned off.) Yellow and White wire is from the 10 Amp "Accessory" fuse in the main fuse box. Did you check that fuse? Yellow/White provides main power to both the Radio and the Amp.thrasherbill wrote:I have no power to the white/yellow stripe wire which I believe is power to the amplifier and runs through the bigger of the two fuses at the back of the radio unit. A simple solution may be to simply check voltage at the fuse, to whether the fuse at the main fuse block is getting power when key is in "ACC" or "ON" position. If there is power but not at the other end near radio, you can temporarily run a jumper wire directly from there to the radio and amp. If you get power, then you can make that jumper more permanent with say an auto quick splice wiring connector and say 18 gauge stranded auto wire. Later when you have time, then you can troubleshoot wiring harness problems later.

Re: Yet another radio question
There is a 10 Amp ACC fuse in the fuse box that supplies 12V switched to the White/Yellow wire to the Radio/Cb and throughout the bike..
You can check the circuit as behind the headlight there is a unused pair of Black/Yellow(Ground) and White/yellow (12Vacc) female bullet connections..
If you get totally stuck, give me a call till 8pm eastern.. the number and details are in the Signature
