I just want to make sure that I'm on the same page .... the DFI unit is about 4x4 inch, mounted under the sear / about the battery. Correct ?
I hate to sound like an idiot, but I've never owned a bike with so many damned electronics.
HELP - won't start !! ECM ???

Actually the DFI unit (Brain/computer) is about 6 inches and mounted on top the battery .Stoogefan wrote:I just want to make sure that I'm on the same page .... the DFI unit is about 4x4 inch, mounted under the sear / about the battery. Correct ?

The smaller box mounted beside the battery is the Igniter .

Re: HELP - won't start !! ECM ???
It turned out that it is in fact the DFI. I took the unit to my local repair guy, and his electronics whiz got into it. 2 of the transistors inside are burnt, 1 actually exploded, and one of the copper ribbons on the circuit board is melted. He offered to try to find replacements and try to repair it, but like everything else on the bike they can't be found. By this point, I was ready to roll the whole thing to the road.....
Next day, he calls me and says that he has found a replacement DFI off of a running (but no longer road worthy) bike at a wrecking yard 5 hours away. Knowing how pricey they can be, I prepare to choke and I ask how much ..... $250 plus shipping. It'll be here tomorrow !!!! Tonite I'll say a little prayer that it works.
Just wanted to give you guys an update, and again say thanks for all the help !
