Post by Jimvoyager01 »

Hi guys...A friend of mine has a 1200 voyager same as mine..He lives in an apartment with a garage without electricty..His 1200 has a two wire battery connection brought out so he can plug in his electric vest..His battery goes dead after two weeks without riding due to the clock in the radio..I told him to buy a car battery and plug it in to the electric vest connection..This will take a long time to discharge this two battery connection..What do you guys think of my solution?????? :hmm: :hmm: :?: :?:

The clock certainly shouldn't be drawing that much power. :hmm: I'd suspect something else is the problem.

Chances are the battery is not good to begin with. Is the battery new or has it been in the bike for years?

First off replace the battery with a high cold cranking gel battery. Oddesy makes a great one and can be ordered on line. Next get a battery tender and run as much extension cord as is necessary to plug the bike into it. If the battery were healthy it would take a couple months to run the battery down. Check the light in the trunk to see if it is staying on when closed. I just unplugged the wires to the switch. Nothing else should be drawing current.

What is the CCA or cold cranking amperage of the battery. It could be the last person that owned it went cheap and got a cheap battery. You should find the highest CCA rating you can find to replace it or you risk this happening again. If you cut costs in things like a battery and tires you have to remember you get what you pay for.

Don't know about you, but my Garage has windows, but then it has electricity too so I use a battery tender on the bike.

My bike is stored in a carport, no power there. My garage is separate and doe not have power either, so that was my only option.

I use a Harbor Freight solar charger (low amp) on bikes while in the garage. I have the solar panel hanging by suction cups on the inside of the window, works great all year long!
