My CB seems to function, op panel lights, channels selection work, volume, X mitt key interrupts radio,
but I can't receive or transmit. A friend and I did a test...
How do I check to see if the antenna is connected / has continuity / no shorts.... ?
How do I get at the back of the CB (assuming that is where I need to be...) to do
the checking? TIA
How to check CB antenna connection / connected

Re: How to check CB antenna connection / connected
You will need a VSWR meter and a dummy load attached to it to simulate an antenna and to absorb the RF the unit puts out. If the meter and dummy load show you are transmitting then you need to start tracing back from the radio to the antenna itself. Put the SWR meter back on and attach it to the antenna. You will then need to tune the antenna to the radio. There should be a place on the antenna to lengthen and short the physical antenna length. When it is tuned the meter will read in the neighborhood of a 1 to 1 ratio. 1 to 3 is acceptable. Anything higher and you are back feeding RF into the radio and not out into the atmosphere.

Re: How to check CB antenna connection / connected
Further to Mr Jensee's info, the LH upper cowling needs to be removed to conduct the work. The LH inner cowling can remain mounted to the cowling subframe.
The main unit is mounted to the bottom of the lockable cassette holder pocket, part of the LH inner cowling, and the switch/digital readout is self evident as to it's location.
It is a bit of a nuisance to accomplish as there isn't much room to get at all the connections but with patience it is do-able.
It may be easier to undo the 4 small 6mm, philips drive, pan head screws holding the main unit to the bottom of the cassette holder pocket to gain access to the connectors, and then re install the main unit after the work is accomplished.
YMMV,
Dave

Re: How to check CB antenna connection / connected
Thanks!!! The physical access was what I was after... it's a new to me scoot and
best I know, it was working? as the last owner had intercom headsets and I think
he was usin' 'um....
I do not intend to use it, but it's there and I'd like to make it functional. It's
just like the radio (it works) I don't want noise, don't ride with folks... it's
just me, bugs me that it doesn't work! GBG Thanks again for the replies!!!!!!
I guess that means the lower left and shield hardware hasta come off too....
on the "todo list"!!!
