Floor Boards vs Pegs
As I fight to get a fit that doesn't hurt my back I was wondering if anyone has reverted from floor boards to pegs and if they will get your feet back under you? I love the bike but it has been hurting my lower back to the point that I listed it for sale but thought maybe pegs would help take the pressure off my lower back???

Re: Floor Boards vs Pegs
When my back hurts the most comfortable thing I can do is ride my Concours, the riding position takes pressure off my back. Unfortunately, it places more strain on my shoulders and elbows. The Voyager is the opposite, because of its more upright riding position. Can't say it has bothered my back yet.
You might try rotating the bars forward in the clamps to get a little forward lean.

Airhawk? Never looked into one of them? Sadly, I have the bike listed with the trailer on the calssified, craigslist and cycle trader. I am off to try one last "real" ride tomorrow of about 6 hrs and pray that I can walk when it is over..

Re: Floor Boards vs Pegs
Foot pegs are much better for me. I have a bad back and with the foot pegs my Voyager was much more comfortable then with the factory floor boards. In fact I bought a set of factory floor boards. When I installed them on sat on the Voyager put my feet on the floor boards, I got off the Voyager and removed the floor boards and sold them. They lifted my feet high enough to make my back hurt just sitting
in the garage. If you can find a set of Marvella's floor boards, they work. you can see how much lower the floor boards are mounted.Don Medina

Re: Floor Boards vs Pegs
What is stated with in this post in no way condoned. These are thing that I do to combat the riggers of long distance riding, and I personal accept consequences for what could arise, for what many would consider unsafe riding. It all comes down to knowing your capabilities, and knowing when and where it is the appropriate time to do so.
When I bought my Voyager 1200 it came with floor boards. I had never had a bike with floor boards before and I was not sure if that is what I wanted. But after getting used to them I just totally love them. I can't say that that I have back issues with them, and I ride any where from 500 to 1600 miles in a day, I don't eve uses a backrest. The only issue that arises form ridding in the saddle that long is monkey butt, and that can be relieved by different leg positions, from front mounted foot pegs, hanging my feet on the rear passenger floor boards, to sitting in the passengers seat, to standing up on the floor boards. It amazes me how just a brief change in position can alleviate many issues. I will also change from riding from up rite position the laying forward on the handle bars. I don't usually ride more the 2.25 to 2.5 hours per session as that is usually when it is time to refuel , and a restroom break, and usually with in ten minutes I'm back on the road for the next session. I have found out for me that is is best to be in a constant position change as once a issue arises it is hard to get ride of.
Monkey butt to me is a build up of heat with in the seat and that transfer to your butt, and then it starts to burn. I have notice that when I ride in the passenger seat air will flow between the sheep skin cover and the seat, and when I sit back down on it feels cool.
One other thing to keep in mind is to keep your back with an arch in it. Like laying on the floor (on your back) with a small pillow under you lumbar, not like it would be if you were laying on the floor (on your stomach) with a small pillow under you. I even keep my back arched when I lay out over the handle bars, and this can be accomplished by just rotating you hips forward.
I also use a Air hawk and getting the right amount of air it it is crucial . Start with a mount of air and increase it form there till it feels right. Get to much air and it is like sitting on a brick. I don't have that much air in mine

Re: Floor Boards vs Pegs
Great words of wizdom. In fact, I rode my first 300 mile+ day but this time I brought a tool kit.. Rode, made adjustmets to things, rode and repeat.. after a few stops I found the position that worked in everything but the seat. Corbin is on the bike now because it gives me the body position that works but but is it hard and I can tell that it would be broken in maybe for next year.. So, in short, I am KEEPING my bike! But still will need a few things:
1) The factory shield has so much buffer with it so I will be looking at a others Cee Baily probably as I have had them on my Concours.
2) A seat.. $$ will be tight this year so I am going to look at one of these Air hawks..
3) Those Marvella's floor boards look great so ???
So, now to remove the listing on the classified..

Re: Floor Boards vs Pegs
.. about the Airhawk / seatpad and shield....
I also put a beaded cover over mine for airflow... it's a warm little sucker!
Be aware that your stock shields are 1/8" and some of the replacements
like Clearview are 3/16, much stiffer, and probable better IMHO, just
be aware of it....
Make it work for you!!!! Best to Ya!!!!
