Coolant pipe drain screw
Anyone know what size the drain screw is on the coolant pipe? Head broke off, Any idea how to get the rest of the screw out of the pipe?

Re: Coolant pipe drain screw
Partshark says M6x10.
I'd take it apart, drill it, and tap it back out.
If that doesn't work, there's a guy 3 hours south of you that has an extra pipe/drain screw if'n you're interested. He has no immediate need for it and would be willing to trade pieces.

Re: Coolant pipe drain screw
Dealer near me looked for 20 minutes on the computer and couldn't find the screw Thanks
Friend says to try screw extractor, will try that first. Being so short, I hope it comes out easily

Re: Coolant pipe drain screw
Fair enough. I personally have never had luck with extractors/easy outs on small stuff, but I do lack finesse from time to time.
Either way, offer stands.

Re: Coolant pipe drain screw
OK, I deleted my previous garbage post.
Going out and looking when I can see it, I don't think you'll have to remove any fairings. The hard part looks to be loosening the bottom hose clamp up by the manifold/ top of the pipe (perhaps you'll need to remove the lower fairing to get to that?). You'll need a 10mm socket to remove the screw that holds the pipe to the water pump. It looks to me like it should come out once both ends are free.

That pipe is connected to the water pump on the bottom side. Easy enough and cheep enough to get a used pipe. Hard part is getting it off and really hard on the water pump with the seal in place. I still fighting mine after pump rebuild. Keeps leaking.

You too? I have a ton of them and have never gotten an extractor to work for me. I don't feel so bad now. LOL!sheiserman wrote:Fair enough. I personally have never had luck with extractors/easy outs on small stuff, but I do lack finesse from time to time.

Re: Coolant pipe drain screw
Ends up I didn't use the extractor, While drilling the second hole in the screw, the broken off piece broke or came apart.. Put in a new screw & it's fixed!
I flushed the radiator for the first time with vinegar, Even thou I change coolant every 2 years I got a lot of rust & crud when I drained it. Glad I did it
Flushed it twice after cleaning with distilled water

Re: Coolant pipe drain screw
I don't know what you mean by "drilling the second hole".
I drill one hole, then break the easy out off in that hole.
I certainly have never scared the bolt out with a drill bit like you did. Glad you got it out. If nothing else, it serves as notice for me to put some anti-seize on that screw this winter.
What did the screw cost you? Partshark wants $1.41 plus whatever shipping would be. The pipe is $45.

Re: Coolant pipe drain screw
Glad to hear you got it out without a lot of trouble At our repair shop,we often weld a nut to a broken off bolt, then we can usually back the bolt out But not always we are usually doing it to a larger bolt,in a more convenient location however.

Re: Coolant pipe drain screw
Instructions said to use a punch first so drill bit had a starting place Then drill a 1/16th starter hole, then widen it with a 1/8 bit so the extractor could get a good bite.
When I did that the screw in the hole fell apart or whatever. Finished flushing the radiator a few times after adding vinegar. Motor ran fine
Screw cost me .99 at the hardware store. Everything is fine now.
