Looks like I have an upcoming project
I was contacted by the widow of a riding friend who happened to own a 2001 like mine. The bike has been sitting under a tarp in the garage of their home now for a couple years. She wants me to come look at it and see if I can breathe life back into the old girl. I intend to try. I know of someone who can clean and set the carburetors. I figure at the least I will have to purge the gas tank, change tires and put in a new battery. Don't know if there are any other issues with it. Wish me luck. I should be looking at it when she gets back into town in a couple weeks.

Re: Looks like I have an upcoming project
Not doing this for me. I have my bike. I am doing it for Charlie's widow who needs to get rid of his stuff and he seemed to collect a lot of stuff. It was because of our mutual friendship that she contacted me to try to get the bike up and running so it could be sold. I told her I would try.

Re: Looks like I have an upcoming project
Did this project ever get off the ground? Could it provide a solution to your broken transmission? It might be less expensive to buy Charlie's bike than take yours to Carl? Then you could maybe have Carl buy your 'parts bike''? Just trying to find the least expensive solution....
Best Wishes...

Re: Looks like I have an upcoming project
Not as of yet. I have text Charlie's wife as of yesterday with no reply. Since my bike is down for the count and I have so much free time on hand it is a shame we haven't communicated. I will however keep everyone informed.

Re: Looks like I have an upcoming project update
Tomorrow I got to pick up Charlie's motorcycle from his widow. I don't know yet what this bike will need because it has been sitting up for the best part of 2 years. I promised Charlie I would get the bike up and running and his widow is banking on being able to sell it to someone who would take care of it. Since my bike is down for a while I have plenty of time on my hands. I would like to request if the bike needs some expensive items like a battery and tires, if anyone wants to kick in a few dollars to help pay for these items since I am now on a fixed income. I can take the money out of savings to do this but I am looking at a possible thousand dollar repair on my bike in January.
Also the bike is a 2001 Voyager XII with low mileage and was running when it was parked. So if anyone on here expresses an interest in buying it just email me (email address in my profile) and I will certainly give you serious consideration.
Thank you all
Michael

Re: Looks like I have an upcoming project
Picked up Charlie's Voyager today. Looks like it has only 25000 miles on the OD. I would post pictures but I cant seem to be able to get them out of my new I phone. If anyone knows how to do this let me know. The bike has been sitting in a garage for the last 2 years. Parts are off if it but most seem to be here. Absent though are a number of bolts that secured things like the seats and faux tank. I have a local nut and bolt supply where I can get them. It will need a new battery. With my charger it does turn over. Sometime this week I will get a couple gallons of gas and see if I can get her started. She will turn over. However the throttle cables are nearly frozen, probably rusted. Lots of rust on her. Handlebars, exhaust pipes and most of the chrome work all rusted. Windshield is going to need to be replaced because it is uncleanable. Fortunately I still have my original windshield that I can use. The brakes are locked and will probably need new pads. If I can figure out how to load some pictures I will do so. Will keep you posted.

Re: Looks like I have an upcoming project
To Scott. Please email me concerning the engine in Charlie's bike. What would you pay for the entire bike. it is still in pretty good shape considering it has been sitting up for 2 yeas. I spent the day cleaning and testing things yesterday. With a few items I believe she will run fine again. This week I am going to have to remove the throttle cables and grease them. The throttle is hard to turn.

Squirt some of this down the cables and work it slowly. It will free them up.

Mr. Kimmer can you let me know where this is available? If it was only on line I need to know. Thank you for the tip.VoyKimmer wrote:http://cdn3.volusion.com/n9g24.e5uwf/v/ ... 1486551287

Never mind. I found it on Amazon, of course what isn't on Amazon. Ordered it tonight. Thank you much!

Re: Looks like I have an upcoming project
I use it on throttle and choke cables once a year. Probably every other year would be sufficient but it's so easy to use. I just remove the screws on both sides to get access to the inner cable and put drops in until it starts coming out the bottom then that's it. Also lube my cruise control cable with it. On stiff cables it may not come out at the carbs until it is worked thru.
