front wheel wobble

Post by smls1301 »

what is the most common cause and fix of the dreaded front wheel wobble? it only happens at slow speeds (about 35, decelerating) and no hands on the handle bars.

When I bought my '99,it had a 404 :cry2: on the front, and it would wobble in that speed range :hmm: I put an E-3 on it and also adjusted the steering head bearing. Those changes took care of the wobble . :woohoo:

Tighten the steering stem bearings. I have put up with that same wobble and the same speeds since I got the bike in 2009. I finally got around to tightening the steering and it now tracks like it is on rails. No more wobble.

My 1990 XII had the wobble, and steering stem bearing adjustment fixed the problem. I can now ride with one hand and it tracks like it's on rails. Not a hard adjustment at all. Much easier than it sounds.
