Rock guards for zg1200

Post by kjsett »

Hi all, Its been awhile since I have posted. I am looking to finally ride my '03 south of the border and just thought about rock protection (a little slow sometimes). Does anyone know of a headlight and or radiator shield available that I could buy and have sent to New Mexico (install before leaving early December)?
I thought I might look for a generic solution at Home Depot if nothing (cost also) is available.
Before you ask, yes I am crazy. No, telling me how bad it is below the border won't dissuade me (if my wife hasn't been able to, right). I will be pulling my 4x5 cargo trailer which is the only thing causing me concern (of course all the other things do, but can't change them).
Speed below the border isn't an issue, most roads are 50 to 62mph (80 to 100kph). Gee, I wish there was a ready made overlay for the speedo to convert.
Topes and speed bumps (or ski jumps) are an issue in Mexico (more so then farther south). Bad roads will be an issue also (trucks tear them up, they finally patch, then the trucks tear them up more).
Last ride was in May from Albuquerque to Phoenix, then Twin Falls ID and back to Albuquerque via Boulder City NV (2 1/2 days after leaving Phoenix). That is another story. Since then it has sat at my sons in Edgewood, NM. He has moved to where his house is being built so access to my bike stuff and tools is difficult. He told me last night that he had to take it out of the shed it was in, and while at work (sometime during the day) the wind blew it over (?????? that is a heavy bike and he didn't say the kick stand sunk in). Now it is at the shop getting the front Progressives put in and having it checked over. Maybe I should start a new topic.
Anyway, if you have any items to protect her (that time and money will work out), let me know.
Gracias,
Ken

Cee Baily's used to carry motorcycle headlight guards but has recently dropped the motorcycle line and just does aviation plastics now. I would contact them and see if they might have one left from there inventory or maybe a contact if they sold there inventory off. Good luck with that. If you do find out that there are still a few to be had please post back at the forum.
