Further reading suggest getting the fuel pump out requires you to remove the fuel tank, Yikes!

The fuel pump/filter can also be accessed without removing the fuel tank by removing the coolant expansion tank.
The top hose is just an overflow hose so disconnect it from the tank and leave it in place as this is easier than trying to get it back in place way down in front of the rear wheel.
Pinch off the lower hose coming from the fill cap and leave this hose in place but disconnect it from the plastic tank. You will lose the coolant in the tank if you don't have the tank loose and ready to tip up when disconnecting this hose.
Be careful not to break the plastic grommet holder on the rear of the lower air box when removing the coolant expansion tank.
Upon reassembly put a dab of brake grease, NOT regular grease, on the spearhead tip of the coolant tank and on the rubber grommet of the lower airbox to make future removals easy.
This removal should get you to the filter/pump with a little less effort.

Got the tank pumped out, low dollar pump was worthless so I used a bigger hose and sucked the gas up with my Mity-Vac pump. Drained about half a gallon. Got it started with starting fluid, runs briefly and then cuts out, when it runs it sounds good. Going to drain the carbs again and try to get the fuel filter out of it. Believe it's on the right side up near the fairing.

Your fuel filter is behind your left chrome side cover and your coolant reservoir.It,and your fuel pump are both there near the bottom of your fuel tank.
