MYSTERY PART!

Post by Write2Paul90277 »

I was just tinkering with my Voyager XII and found a part I can't identify. It was just laying on the engine cases. Did it drop out of something in the airbox/carb area above? Did it fly in there under its own power?

Anyone know what it is and where it goes?

Looks like a piston from a clutch or brake master cylinder... what do the ends look like?

.

The ends are solid -- no holes or passageways.

Hope that helps!

Looking at a blow up of the clutch and brake master cylinders, that part doesn't match anything that shows up. Also the part looks too clean. Have you torn down any part of the bike lately?

The ends are flat and solid.

Whether it's from this particular bike or not, it's possible that the previous owner accidentally dropped it somewhere amidst the cables, hoses and wiring, then it fell out at some point while I was wrenching.

The PO had the bike stored beneath tons of boxes, baskets, clothes and a thousand other things. Could've fallen in while in storage.

Who knows? Maybe I have a rare blivit bolt from a 1926 Duesenberg and don't know it!

If anyone recognizes this part as coming out of the Kawasaki factory back in the late 80s, please let me know.

Thx

Paul

No no no, it can't be a blivit bolt, because the 1926 models started using the 5/8" diameter pinkney flange. It could, however be from a 1925 Model A Dusey. :rolling:
It truly does look like something hydraulic, like a brake or clutch piston......

Mr Jensee;

Isn't that the rear master cylinder piston shown on page 11-9 in your online parts book? Kinda looks like it to me.....

No, doesn't look like a master cylinder piston. Actually doesn't look like any part from the Voyager.

It's a control valve of some sort, pneumatic (vacuum) or fuel system related. I'd just hang on to it, if it belongs to the Voyager will probably evidence itself where it came from. I've tossed out parts I couldn't comprehend where, then later come to find out that was a mistake.

I had my '93 apart last winter to split the cases for a transmission gearset swap. I didn't get into the carbs, but I never saw anything like that inside or attached to the engine. I like the "came from a Harley" theory. I'd hang on to it 'cause it looks kool, but I don't believe it came from the Voyager.

It kinda looks like the little piston that goes in the carb enrichment valve hole...at least ones I have seen on other carbs.
