Finally cruising again.
What a great feeling. My cruise quit working last summer and I've ripped into it 3 times to find the culprit. Yes I checked the usual switches and connections every time with no luck. I did find a few things I didn't like and got those things fixed but still had no cruise. Finally during the 3rd go round and 4 days of tracing wires through the harness, I found a broken wire going to the right handlebar "set" slide switch. Fixed that and removed the wire stays on the handlebars to give more play in the wiring harness. I now have my cruise back and the up side is that I've looked at nearly every inch of wire in that system and every connector now has been cleaned and has dielectric grease installed.Hopefully this puts an end to my cruise issues for a long time. I was told by several of you folks to keep looking and put in the time. Thanks to all of you here for you help.

My turn is coming up. Pray for me.
Do you have handy the thread you found most helpful? I think there's been a few.

Chris from KC made a video about cruise control adjustment

Re: Finally cruising again.
Thanks. I did that adjustment -- mine was way out.
I have an electrical issue somewhere. The cruise suddenly quit working while riding, and it won't turn back on. Probably a bad sensor, maybe a broken wire, dunno. I need to find that list of all the sensors. (I hear a tiny voice: "Just keep after it. Eventually...")

Check the relay under the headlight. Just because you can hear it click doesn't mean it's good. The contacts get pitted. Mine went out. Same symptoms.

Re: Finally cruising again.
According to Carl Leo, 90 % of cruise issues are either the cable being out of adjustment or a bad switch. whether it is actually bad, dirty or just out of adjustment. Start there and eliminate each as you go. He told me that in all his years working on these bikes, he has never seen a module go bad. That news was big on letting me get that out of my head as a culprit. Some things I found during my search were.
1) The spade connectors to the front brake switch on my right handle bar unit were loose and had pulled off only to be touching the connector intermittently. Pinched them with a pair of pliers and they are making good contact now.
2) The large 9 pin connector from the cruise council under the false tank cover was warn from all the years of pulling the cover for service. once again, I pinched each female end of the connector and they all make good contact again.
3)When listening for the double click on the right front brake lever,I could only hear one. UNLESS I pushed the lever out further with my hand. Turns out the lever pivot point was dirty and not allowing the lever to move to it's furthest point and open that cancel switch. Cleaned everything up and I hear the double click every time now. Of course I took the time to clean the clutch lever as well.
4)My rear foot brake switch was a bit dirty but that flimsy, thin metal piece that engages it was bent. I'm assuming as the rear brakes wore down, the PO must have bent it to make the switch work. then when I did the rear brakes and readjusted my brake pedal. It was no longer in the best position.
5) Ultimately, the final culprit of mine was the broken "blue" wire in the right hand switch housing, going to the "set" switch. It actually broke right at the solder point on the switch and got pulled inside the wire casing. Figured out that the wire keeper just outside the switch housing was missing and had nothing holding that wire bundle from being pulled and yanked on each time the handle bars were turned.
Carl was a great source of information for me, but mostly were the guys who just told me to keep looking and eliminating each thing in the circuit and I will find it. I'll tell you the same thing. Just go slow and patiently, start by looking at the simple things and eliminate things one at a time. You'll find it. Don't forget you have a switch nestled in between the center carbs that is most likely dirty as well.
Good luck

Re: Finally cruising again.
Thank you for the thorough reply. I'll write "cruise quit" just to make this thread easier to search up later.
