help sequencing puting back on carb set.

Post by nakona1 »

hey now. I bought a basket in march an 87 voyagerx11. the carb set was removed with lines and cables all over. I am old and not rich. I have gone on line, and even emailed a guy named carl a couple times but got no answer. there has to be a sequence to get this rig running. the guy I bought it from lost interest. I learned that I should have a 2144 igniter rather than the original. I asked carl for that and a drivers side lid for the hard bag. the machine is wasteing by not runnin. I hope that carl is ok. any videos on how to get it back together or just how it goes back together would be great. service manual told me nothing. thanks nakona1

Start by going to the AVA home page; highlight "Tech Center"; choose Voyager XII; scroll down to the engine section and there you will find 6 carburetor articles which may be of some help.
As well the online part suppliers such as Partzilla, BikeBandit and Dennis Kirk all have illustrations of the various components of these bikes which can be helpful.
Yes you should install the 21119-1248 igniter. They can be found used on eBay along with saddlebag lids. Use eBay Motors and search Kawasaki: Voyager XII or ZG1200 parts.

Speaking from someone who just removed and reinstalled those carbs I can tell you it is a real pain. Get yourself a couple of large long surgical clamps. Without them getting the throttle cables back on is impossible. I got this from Carl Leo himself. Amazon is great. I also picked up some long needle nose plyers at Harbor Freight. The carbs have to slide in from the left side. Nothing else will work. YOU HAVE to have that damn lower air filter in first or you will never get the carbs to fit to them. I spent 2 days working on just that part. I have a manual you can access online by clicking on my signature. The carb section will help you see where all the hoses go. I was lucky that the bike I was putting the carbs on wasn't my machine. I had mine sitting right next to it to compare procedures. You are free to give me a call if you think you can benefit from my experience. 337-781-8158.

A 1248 igniter is a must. I thought I had a drivers saddlebag lid, but it's the passenger I have extra for sale. Long pair of needle nose pliers for installing the carbs and I also removed the starter to get more space. Why were the carbs removed, are they rebuilt? I live in NE GA area, if you do, I could help ya out. I've had my bike stripped down almost to the frame. I switched colors to tan from olive green. Then the carbs need balancing once you do install them.
