Bike dead
Hi everyone, I have a 96 voyager and was away for 5 weeks but had a battery tender on the bike. I tried to start it Tuesday and it cranked about 4 times then all power went off. I have a voltmeter on it, about 13.4 volts. When I turn key on voltmeter go black, no lights no radio, nothing. Sometimes I hear a slight hum somewhere in faring but can’t locate it.
Thanks for any help.
Bob

... clean and put dielectric grease on battery terminals..
If Ya want to play, put your meter on the battery terminals, NOT the
clamps and see what Ya have.... JM2C

Re: Bike dead
Like Cranky said, put your voltmeter on the battery terminals, then keep checking your voltage as you work your way to the starter. You would start making the repair where you lose voltage.

Re: Bike dead
I checked and cleaned battery terminals. Put meter on battery, it reads 14 volts but as soon as I turn key on it drops to 4 or 5 volts. Trying to find what is shorting battery.

Re: Bike dead
ok, Cranky you’re correct. Had battery checked and it shorts out under load. It was only 1 , 1/2 years old. Took it back to store and it is under warranty, so I’ll put everything back together and start riding. Thanks guys good job.

Re: Bike dead
Look into getting an AGM battery. That with a plug in tender will last you several years.
