K & N AIR FILTERS
I just bought another voyager 1200 and the person that had it before me added K&N air filters. Is there anyone that has done that and is that something I should be concerned about. I did notice that it does not start as quick as the voyager I just replaced it with. Gas mileage not bad but not as good as my last one. Should I go back to OEM? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks in advanced.

Re: K & N AIR FILTERS
Are you talking about separate pod filters on each carb, and doing away with the air box? I've always heard that the airbox was a benefit because it supplied the carbs with comparatively quiet air, but I don't think it's been proven either way...I know on the Concours C10 the airbox, with the inlet partially restricted and the carbs re-jetted resulted in a whole different, better-running motor...matter of fact, I was wondering if Steve in So. Florida had ever done any experimentation with the Voyager X11 carbs and airbox...

Re: K & N AIR FILTERS
I ran with one on my 1979 Honda 750K. It ran better, according to the butt dyno.
I had that bike from 2006 - 2010, putting 12,000 miles on it. I never had an issue caused by the K&N air filter. It ran great, especially after I upgraded the plugs to NGK Iridium's: weak OEM coils would take a bit of grinding to start the engine; with the Iridium's, it started instantly, every time, so long as the carbs had gas in them.
When I need a new air filter on my Voyger XII, I will likely install a Uni foam filter, with oil. I had a 1983 Kawasaki 440LTD, with an oiled, foam air filter from the factory. The foam was shot, so I cut some Uni foam to fit, oiled it, and it ran beautifully for the three years I owned it (2007 - 2010). Uni foam material is inexpensive, as is the oil. Trick is making it fit and seal properly. Otherwise, I'll look into a K&N. Cheers!

Re: K & N AIR FILTERS
Thanks everyone for the response! I appreciate it. I'll have another question with pictures in the next few days. I found something odd when I went to change to oil just haven't taken a picture.

Go to the AVA home page. In the column on the left side put your cursor on Tech Center and a drop down list will appear with Dollar for Dollar at the bottom.tiredofbs4 wrote:Where is this Dolkar fir Dollar section I cant find ut

Re: K & N AIR FILTERS
Just in case it's not obvious, the paper filters can be washed and reused. (I just washed - first with Simple Green then laundry detergent - my ZN1300's filter and it came out looking new).
