Gas Smell But...

Post by yustr »

Researched the threads on what may be causing a gasoline smell after a ride but hope that this one clue may narrow it down: it only seems to happen with a full tank. I went for a ride the other day and filled up about a mile from the house - major smell afterwards. It hadn't been there in the days before even after a ride that didn't include a stop at ARCO.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Are you seeing any fuel on the ground ? Is it a Cal model ? Are the carb float drain screws leaking ? What have you removed so far as to visually inspect the fuel system or the top of the tank ? What if any work has been done to this bike ? Time to take the seats off and the faux tank cover and look it over.

I had this problem the other day. Found it finally it was the main supply like from the tank up to the carbs. It had slipped off a bit and was dripping gas. Pain in the backside to get to but was able to reattach it firmly with long needle nose pliers.
