Vibration

Post by FATHERKAY »

Hi there. Hello from England. I do hope you can help me. My wife Sarah has a
1986 Voyager 1200 in trike form. Unfortunately we have a problem and
although I used to own a motorcycle shop for 20 years im afraid im a little
unsure on this one. The bike starts and runs great but vibrates like hell
in 3rd 4th 5th and 6th gears. If i take off the 'star' shaped cover off the
front final drive box and turn the large nut a few revolutions the problem
subsides and it doesn't vibrate as much but then after a few miles it
returns to vibrate mode! Can you shed any light on the problem. Do we need
to buy a replacement front final drive unit? Any help would be good. Many
thanks.

It sounds like your u-joint,in the front of the driveshaft may have failed.
There is a downloadable service manual in this forum.
Check it out ,and also a post regarding that problem.
Let us know what you find out!

Is that cover right above the engine oil sight glass ? If so and that nut is loose. STOP take the key out and put it in you sock or underwear drawer. Your done riding. Until you get this issue repaired , that nut retains the pinion gear and will just tear that gearbox up and also contaminate the engine with metal....
