Alternator or regulator

Okay I found out today there is something wrong with my charging system and I think it's my alternator but I want to make sure that it it's not something simple like getting a regulator put into it or something like that I looked around in my area but I couldn't seem to find anybody that would actually rebuild them or could give me an actual answer to test it 30 40 bucks is a lot better than 2 300 anybody know of a place that rebuilds alternators near Chesapeake Virginia / North Eastern Carolina area I already got two alternators I don't want to go out and buy a third one if I could go ahead and get one rebuilt or it could be something simple as a regulator is gone

I seem to remember that the Voyager XII uses a Mitsubishi alternator. You might pull it and take it to a automotive supply store like Advance or OReily and see if they can test it. Since it is mounted on the top of the backside of the engine it shouldn't be that hard to remove. If it needs repair or replacement there should be an alternator rebuild business somewhere in your area. Alternators seem to go bad more than voltage regulators.

ALTERNATOR UPGRADES (OEM Replacements in OEM Parts Replacement Table below)

Keep in mind when going to a larger amp alternator that these produce their output at higher rpm's. Some larger amp alternators don't put out until 2500 rpm's, ore even higher! If you do a lot of city riding and very little highway riding, you may drain your battery rather than charge it!

REWIND UPGRADE (1200) (from stock 35 amp to 55 amp output)- Morton Grove Auto Electric, Il (Phone # (847)-394-1698) has gained a good reputation for upgrading stock Voyager XII alternators to produce 55 amp output. Check current pricing, and it takes about two or three weeks after receipt of your stock alternator. Please tell them you were referred from the American Voyager Association website.

The Repair Manual will give you instructions on how to test both the Alternator, and the Regulator. I'd suggest testing, rather than guessing. Testing will save you money. Cheers!

The OEM alternator can not be rebuilt because several parts are not available anymore.
Several stores on Ebay sell replacement alternators
