I've found no information on this. I can't believe none else has had this seal fail yet. I suppose I will start digging In on It

I would consult with Carl Leo on this. He may have some pointers.

Are you referring to the pinion on the engine ? Make sure it is engine oil...SMELL IT . Gear oil from the rear final drive is known to migrate forward making one think it is the front bevel gear case leaking into the U-joint boot.

If you are getting gear oil forward from the final drive, you may have a final gearbox that did not have the vent hole drilled from the factory. You can research that on this forum. My '99 did not have the hole drilled, and it was not until 5 years ago, that I found it out. :hmm:
Without the hole drilled,as the oil warms up and expands, the pressure can overcome the seal and the oil can go forward to the flexible seal and leak out.

I'm referring to the shift shaft seal. I'm positive its leaking I can lay under it and wiggle the shaft and get a drip to come out. Its engine oil. The bike sat for 5 years In the shop and I think the seal may have dried out a little.

Also my bike is an 86. I do believe it has the small vent hole on the final drive.
