New Voyager from Vancouver, BC Canada needs Help

I am a potential new voyager XII from Vancouver BC Canada who could really use some help. I’m hoping to find someone from the area that would be willing to meet me for coffee and show off his voyage XII and answer some questions. I have not even been able to find one to sit on to see if it fits me! I’m also looking to see if anyone knows of one for sale relatively close to me. In a perfect world it would be around 25 years old, so about a 1991 to 1997. Thanks

That price is high for the US, for such a used bike, IMO. The right side engine guard bar is bent outwards -- not a deal breaker, but something to discuss when haggling. The two engine guard bars should face each other, you should be able to fit a pipe inside each (requires removal of one, or both guard bars, but they should line up, and bolt on), drill holes, and secure them with said pipe, to strengthen them, considerably. Someone has been pulling, hard, on this one, bending it away from the engine. PO might have done so to get a better angle on the highway footpeg.<br/>\n<br/>\nOther than that, the bike looks great. The odometer shows that it is barely broken in -- the engine will last for over 300k Kilometers, without major work. I would think the bike is $1,500 CA too high, but that is just my opinion. Research your market, and see if it is priced appropriately.<br/>\n<br/>\nWith regards to whether it will be a good fit for you, the seat height is 29.7 inches. Welcome to the group stastny. Try, if you haven't already, Kijiji using the All of (Fill in province here) heading of the Touring category in the Motorcycle section. There are 9 listed but the closest is Ontario. These Voyager XII\'s are the best-kept secret in the industry. Be aware that the 1986 and early 87\'s had the bad igniter so if you are considering one of these model years take the false tank off and check the igniter which is mounted onto the RH side of the air filter box. It should read 21119-1248 NOT 21119-1179. Otherwise, the usual things to check will suffice. Good hunting, Dave

You could walk into the dealership with $3,000, CASH and see what he says. I've heard many a story of people flashing cash-money and getting a much better price. Besides that, it is fun to see people's reactions, to watch the wheels spin in their heads. I've done it once -- had to grit my teeth to avoid smiling, and even laughing, out loud, as I watched them struggle, internally. The cash won out, in the end. Cheers!

Bike looks to be in excellent shape. Congrats. I notice what appears to be the rear speakers mounted on the front inner cowlings. And it looks as though someone changed the mufflers for a set of 1986 pea shooters. Other than that I would say you have a real good ride to enjoy.
You probably already know but change ALL the fluids before you trust it. Doing so will familiarize you with the bike and ensure all the fluids are new and up to the job. One never knows what a previous owner really has changed and when it was done, or if it was done. Also if you don't already have one of each, get a service manual, the supplement for the service manual and an owner's manual. Links are available in the Tech Center, off of the AVA Home Page.
Enjoy the ride. It is one of the best kept secrets out there.

Thanks for all the information. The previous owner moved the rear speakers forward which I like very much since I usually will be riding one up. He also replaced the exhaust when it gave way and I like the look of the ones that are on it. Thank you for identifying them as 1986. It came with the owner's manual and service manual, now I just have to learn how to do the work!

It looks like you got a good looking bike.
As others have said,change all the fluids,including fork,shocks,if original,clutch,and brakes.
That bike probably already had the ignition switch harness issue taken care of.That can be researched on this forum!
