Hi,
For my 70th birthday my wife gave me a 1995 Kawasaki Voyager XII with 23,000 miles. She was tired of not being to ride with me, I have an older Confederate.I guess she figured at 70 I needed comfort and not speed. Other than me getting use to the weight change, (took about a weeks worth of trips around the block), the bike seems fine. With the end of the riding season approaching, I'm trying to find a competent, honest and reliable shop near Chicago where I can have the bike serviced, change the tires etc. Since we are fairly new to the area, I would appreciate any recommendations.
Thanks, and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone in NH.
Gerry

Welcome,Rumpole,to the wonderful Voyager family, You will be able to find a considerable amount of wisdom regarding your Voyager on this site.
As far as advice for a dealer,I cannot help any.
I bought my '99 almost 10 years ago for $5000 with 22,000 miles on it.It has 84,000 on it now,and I still am very pleased with it's performance and reliability.

Hi Rumpole,
I live in Gurnee and can tell you that I wouldn’t trust any dealer. Best to work on your own bike. As far as tires. Order them yourself, I have a good guy that mounts my tires for a good price. He mounts them wheels off the bike. I would be glad to assist you.

Hi,
Thanks for the advice. I've not been impressed with car dealers, so I'm not surprised about motorcycle dealers. It's sad there is not even an independent motorcycle shop that can be trusted. I just downloaded and printed the manuals. Thanks Again.

If you find a good independant shop ,hang on to them.
It is not so much trust but skill set.
A friend of mine is a certified motorcycle mechanic ,but when i asked about setting the valves on my 1300 he did not have a clue. They do not teach that in school anymore

I don't disagree with earlier comments.
I have an extremely competent shop and they know tires too: Northwest Cycle Center, McHenry, IL. Ron is the owner, also a previous racer and still rides. Don't be in a hurry, as they do not kill themselves to get bikes done, but are very competent. They have worked on my 1990 and my 1995 Voyagers. Northwest Cycle Center: (815)344-7780. They can also be found via their FaceBook page.
