Being the type of owner that likes to know about the condition of my bike, I took the rear apart to grease, inspect, clean and replace anything that needs it.
So, not having a manual, I'll need some acquired knowledge help.
1) if I take off the final drive, will some more fluid come out? Springs , clips or any other surprises?
2) Where do we get new bearings from and do I need seals with the bearings?
3) Is there a gasket between the final drive and the shaft housing?
4) i am going to put Progressive 412 rear socks on but I see they come in different sizes. Does it matter which ones I use? I'd like the 13" not the 12.6" if it doesn't matter.
One more thing, if the shocks (rear) are to short, will it make using the centerstand a no go? I had to put the bike up on a block to get the centerstand to work.
One big reason I took it apart is a pretty loud whine when going down the road. No problems shifting, so I want to make sure everything I can do, is done. 60,000 miles on it.
Took the rear end apart...

Re: Took the rear end apart...
Welcome ,itlives, you can find a breakdown of the parts on the internet using bikebandit or partzilla, which along with the local dealer,is where I get my parts.
Pulling the rear end can lose some gear oil,but you should probably change that out anyway.
Too short of a shock will make it hard to get up on the center stand.
Let us know how you are getting along, and ask more questions if you want, that is how I got to learn more about my bike.

The shock is an MDI 402C ...which I can't find on the internet. I believe I measured 13" center hole to center hole. I have found MDI 412 online and they're a lot less expensive than the Progressive.cushman eagle wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2019 1:31 am

I know you get what you pay for....
Definitely changing the final drive oil.
Axel looked great.
Fresh grease on the spines.
Spines looked great.
Going to replace the bearings because they're not perfectly smooth when turning with my finger.
I paid $1,500 for it so I can afford to do a little upkeep
There's a local Cushman club (Tyler , Texas is where I saw them). I love old vehicles. Would like to see some pics of yours!

If you want to download a manual for free, go to "general chat". Scroll down to 'decisions'. At the end of Mr Genesee post is a link for the manual. There's lots of posts on this forum about noisy ring & pinions. Best to start out experimenting with different oil. Also don't fill it up all the way. Be sure to drill a vent hole if your housing doesn't have one. Have fun with your research & keep us posted.

Yes, Louisiana is forgiving temperature wise. I just cover everything up when it rains. It is under a pop up.
