Why is it always...
...the left saddlebag lid that takes flight, it seems? I'm reckoning it's because we get lazy and leave the closest bag unlocked for convenience. I've also noticed that the latches, even on the right side, appear to bend over time.
Anyone know if PA will fail inspection because of the missing lid, or will they pass it?

Re: Why is it always...
When we were heading to the Nashville,Indiana rally,Peg packed the bike before I got home from work.
In my haste to get going,I did not inspect anything
Two hours into the trip, she tells me the left bag lid is off,we find a place on I 70 west of Columbus,Ohio to get off the road to see what happened.I had just followed Mr.Jensee's plan on making lid tethers
and they did what they were supposed to do,keep them with the bike.
What had happened,is she locked, but did not latch the latches.

Re: Why is it always...
Oops.
It's funny, I found a lid on eBay today, $60. It's even the proper Elephant Gray color (but not in as good a shape as Gertrude is, so will need repainting at some point).
Now to find a radio antenna...
Any idea what a shop charges to change a rear tire (including R&R, can't do it myself).

Re: Why is it always...
Hey Dennis, welcome!
My inspection guy charged me $22 which included computerized spin balancing, plus another $2 to get rid of the tire.
I too have a lid (right side) with road scars on it but they were from the pervious owner.
Post a pic of your "elephant gal Gertrude "! We all love to see pics.

Well Dennis, Gertrude The Elephant is a beauty. I'll bet all the kids want to ride on her just like at the circus!
As for an antenna, check the Classified Ads section. There are some folks who have parts or extras.

Thanks, Scott, I'll be sure to pass your comment on to Gertrude
As for the antenna, I'll probably just pick one up from Pep Boys. I rarely listen to the radio anyway. It's mostly for appearance sake, I guess, although I would perhaps like to put a CB in her someday.
Was $22 for the tire mounting including removal and replacement on the bike?

Re: Why is it always...
The Kawasaki dealer near me wanted $150 for R&R on bike and $80 off bike for the tire replacement . That was 15 years ago and needless to say I didn’t use them .who knows what they charge now. I found a local mechanic that does it for me for $25 off bike . Been using him for years.
Thanks for the pics of your bike . Nice ! Nice!
I would loose the front rotor lock tho. Seen a guy forget about it and took off with it on . Lots of damage. No one is going to steal your bike . Many times I forget to take the key out of the ignition . Even overnight a couple of times at hotel. No one wants these bikes . It’s not a Harley .

Re: Why is it always...
That was off the bike. I have a Harbor Freight bike lift table w/drop out for rear tire, so I removed it and tossed it in my car along with the new E-4.GrandpaDenny wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2019 4:27 pm Thanks, Scott, I'll be sure to pass your comment on to Gertrude ......Was $22 for the tire mounting including removal and replacement on the bike?

Good looking bike there. Those older generation Voyagers had some of the nicest paint combos.

Re: Why is it always...
Installed the new saddlebag lid (left side, of course) yesterday. Perfect match, but dinged up. Who knows, maybe it's the one that fell off Gertrude?
Learned the hard way about removing the relays when changing spark plugs. I feel kind of left out that the spark plug wells are clean, not full of crap like everybody talks about. Left out, and very lucky
. Will finish the spark plugs this weekend.
Got the new Dunlop E4 rear tire. For financial reasons have to wait until next month to get it put on, and the bike inspected. Will also have the oil changed. I seem to see Rotella T6 frequently recommended, is that true? What filters are recommended?
Thanks!
Plans for next weekend:

Re: Why is it always...
Well... #1 spark plug well was clean. #2 & 3 are definitely NOT. Not having a garage, or shop vac, etc. etc. The remaining three plugs will get changed when I take her to the shop to get the rear tire installed.
Just after changing one plug, she is much better behaved. Can't wait to get this finished!
