Help Needed In Basket case XII

Hi Everyone,

A Newbie here. A month back a guy gave me a Voyager XII that he took apart to customize, but he lost interest in it as he had other projects to work on. So, what i got was the bike taken apart and he mentioned that i just need to put it back together as it was a running bike before he took it apart. During the past couple of weeks, i've put the chassis, engine front forks, rear shocks, swing arm and the carbs. Right now the following are the things i have yet to do:
1) Wiring Harness
2) Fuel lines

My questions are,
1) Can i do away with the EVAP system?
2) I also want to do away with cruise control, is that possible, like completely do away with that?
3) Can i switch the throttle to a single cable rather than the current Accel and Decel type?

My plans for this build is to put the bike together and do away with all the front fairings and convert this into a naked bike, things i'd like to do away with is the EVAP system, Cruise control, and the dual throttle setup.

Some of the things that are missing are Reserve lighting device, Turn signal operation switch, left hand switch assembly (ordered used one on ebay), Speedometer Assy. would any of these prevent me from starting the bike?

Any help on this would be really helpful.

2) Yes
3) Yes, although the safety factor of the closing cable is advised the bike will operate with a single cable.
None of the items you listed as missing would prevent the motor from starting.
A good online parts supplier will have exploded parts diagrams which may prove helpful, as well as a service manual and the supplement for it are recommended.

1) Do you know what needs to be done in order to remove the EVAP sys? do i just cap those ports?
2) Got it!!
3) Since the carburetor does have the spring effect, shouldn't that work? just like single cable throttle setup

I got the service manual and the wiring diagram from this forum, i've been using oemmotorparts.com for their parts diagram, which i feel is a lot better than the ones on the service manual.

I was unable to upload any pics, This is where i am right now on the build, tomorrow i will attempt to start the bike. Fingers crossed!!

I'm also looking at alternative faux tank options, does anyone have any experience finding another option? If not i'll have to mod the one i have with fiberglass.

1) Yes just use the # 92068-006 rubber plugs, shown on the "Carburetor" diagram as 92066.
2) Yes but without the return cable always REMEMBER where the kill switch is, just in case.
I have seen posts where Goldwing GL1200 tanks have been used.

Also, do i need to do anything to do away with the cruise control system, does the box need to be plugged in or can it be taken off completely, and do i need to short any pins etc. ?

Unsure about the cruise computer but I would bet that it can be omitted entirely. Just a guess though.

Update!!! I got it to start and it idles really well. Next I need to figure out the throttle cable. Does anyone know how its installed? Or anyone have actual photos of the cables installed, so I can figure out how it is oriented? The service manual does not provide any help on this.
