radio that won't turn on.

Post by kevinr »

The clock works, radio won't power on though. No lights, buttons don't do anything. Checked the 3 fuses. Used a multimeter to check the power. Only thing curious is that I think it showed 3.1 volts, and the wiring diagram shows that it should be getting 12, but I'm far from an electrical expert. I was just trying to make sure there wasn't a break somewhere.

Does anyone know if the unit will still power up if there is an issue with the amp? I haven't checked that, since it looks like I have to take apart significantly more to get to it.

Any thoughts? Do these units typically go bad? I saw a post on ebay for an 80$ repair service, I'm guessing they are a member here.

Thanks again, this group has been such a big help.

That person is Mr. Peter Franchi in Virginia. He is the expert on these radios.
The amp should have no bearing on the on or off capability of the radio unit itself. If you click on the Tech Center heading on the AVA home page and then open Voyager XII you will see a "Click Here" button which will open a new window to all the info you need for the radio. Yes you should have 12Volts on the radio side of the fuse/s so be sure your battery has 12 Volts, which I would imagine you have already verified.
Pete can fix you up for most any problem you may have.

Is that true for 1300 radios as well or only for 1200's? The OEM Clarion radio in my 86 works generally pretty well but the Seek function is crap (in either local or DX Mode) - it needs a 'tune up'. I have everything to tune it up myself (including the service manual) except for an FM signal generator and would pay someone else to tune it for me.

I can't say if Pete does the 6 cylinder radios but his Google website called "Voyager Radio Repairs" lists a phone number in Virginia that you can call, 540-391-0884 until 9:00 pm EST or you can e-mail him at b6sw@hotmail.com .

Turned out, it was the ACC fuse that had blown.

It would be nice if all Voyager problems were that easy to fix.
