Getting ready to pull the swingarm on my 98, Got the chrome caps off. Then there's a piece with 3 Allen head bolts holding those on. Pass side has a nut and bigger Allen head in the middle.
Now the Drivers side or Left side. That nut and bolt inside it no go. Just an open space and the rod inside or bearing? This side left is messed up. Someone tried to pull the bearing out? And cause more damage then needed. I think it can be fixed without a lot of trouble. But want to make sure I'm thinking right. And both sides has that slack adjuster piece?
And anyone know where to get the piece for the left side if it should have one?

It is only the RH side, (from the factory), which has the set screw, and locknut. The opposite side does NOT have that setup; it is just a plain round plate held on by the 3 small hex drive cap screws.
There is a thick steel plate inside of the round plate which the hex drive set screw puts pressure on to preload the swing arm bearings.
If you go to any of the online parts suppliers such as partshark, dennis kirk, bike bandit,or partzilla one can look at the part illustrations for a voyager XII and when used with the service manual you should have no problem working on/removing/replacing the swing arm.

The swing arm bearing shafts sometimes develop a ring of rust next to the frame which makes them hard to remove using the bolt puller method outlined in the service manual. You may have to get in that tiny space and remove the ring of rust. Sometimes lots of penetrating fluid helps as there is virtually no space to get at the rust ring.

Thanks been spraying it down morning and night the last few days. No rush, so letting it soak. Kroil most times makes anything let go.

Uesd that a few times. but Kroil has worked for me the best so far over the last 4 or 5 years. After spraying bolts, that should have never been taken out. They were easy as a new bolt.
IN farming we used to use brake fluid. It was cheap and worked great. Unless there was paint involved.
