Back in the saddle

Post by ekap1200 »

Hello everyone. Well it has been 8 weeks of recovery for me and I managed to get back on two wheels. Harry (the hat ) and I have been touring around NJ and I have went thru a tank of fuel so far. Thanks Harry, Marie is happy that I had someone to ride with as she is still very concerned with me being out and about by myself. Went for about 90 miles by myself yesterday, and I have to admit today I am a bit sore. Today I may just relax and just enjoy being alive.

Unfortunately I didn’t foresee this nice weather and I winterized my motorcycles back in October when it snowed. So no riding for me until spring. When I winterize my bikes I treat the gas with seafoam heavily and run it thru the carbs for a couple of tank fulls, then drain the carbs, pull out the battery and store in the basement, strip the plastic off and plan my winter maintenance. Once I commit to winterize there’s no going back. I have a lot to do on these bikes this winter and i go overboard on the maintenance once a year and change all and I do mean all fluids , brake pads , and a lot of other work including checking all frame bolts and cleaning every singe part of the bikes inside and out.

So happy you got in a ride before winter arrived. 37 degrees with rain/snow here today. I'm patiently waiting for parts to arrive. Once they're here, then winter maintenance can begin.

I hear ya ! It is raining here in NJ , so I got to get some trim made up. Another set of floor board covers. If it rains tomorrow, I have a set of front vents that need to be completed. I am not shutting the 1200 down yet, I want to ride until the salty roads appear.

I will ride up here in northern Illinois until salt or snow hits the roads and makes them unsafe. Not uncommon to ride well into December.
