Decent weather

Post by Lucasind »

....Hello to everyone from Toledo ! ...Nearing mid December here in northern Ohio , and the weather has still been hanging in there, allowing for some motorcycle riding. I got off work Friday at lunchtime, and got out the 2 Voyager XII's , up to the gas station , fill up the tanks, and add the Seafoam, thinking the weather cant stay this good much longer ! I finally got my Z1 900 project finished that I started back in August, took it out for a 20 mile ride and topped off the tank on it as well....I am down to 2 Voyagers currently , as I sold my ZN 1300 over the summer, had a little more space in my workshop for only a minute , when this basket case Z1 900 came my way all apart in boxes and buckets, set up a set of saw horses in the workshop, set a piece of plywood across, and start sorting out parts ,nuts, bolts, etc,is the way these types of things begin that someone else took apart decades ago.......found many parts were missing, and the search began ! I had approx. 325 hours of labor into it,doing a nut and bolt restoration,to what you see in the pic. :-D

Hello from Sunny and 60deg south Jersey.... That 900 looks GREAT. Well done, " a busy man is a happy man ".
I am going out today , very soon, with my early birthday gift, ( heated vest ) and a new to me seat. In all the miles I have gone the stock seat has seen better days. I made out like a bandit with a recent part/bike purchase. Only 50k on the odo., and a darn good exhaust sys, that is cleaning up very well. I am building a ( 2000 frame 1995engine 2002 plastic ) Out of the three parts bikes I have title for the 2000. again, "busy man happy man " . I go back to full time work beginning in January , I feel great, for an old man. ( when that happened I don't know ) mid-life slipped right by me...
Hope to see ya'll this year.
Gene Kap.

I was able to get 5870 miles on the VXII this year, and 535 on the Cushman
I did fill the tank and added Seafoam on the VXII last Thursday, the weather does not look good for improving on the miles this coming week :cry2:

We wound up with about a foot of snow and the warmest sunny day in the next week is Tue, at 40F. We now have salt on the roads, the shortest daylight hours, and melting conditions will make for wet roads in places.

Still, at some point this weekend I'll likely put the bike up on the center-stand in the driveway and run it in gear so I can warm up and replace the gear lube in the final drive, Looks like a very quick and easy job. The tank is alreay topped off.

We sometimes see a January thaw with temps in the 70s. Being that the bike is it the garage it is always available if the weather cooperates.

BTW Lucasin, nice job. I bought my first ever bike at 15 (Kawasaki K5 100) from a guy that had a Z1 900. That bike had a nickname, the "hinge" ;-) Even by todays standards I bet it's a lot of fun. A 900cc 2-stroke is formidable.

Hello from N.J. - Hello Tony from Toledo , I have finally picked up enough parts bikes to build one from. And enough strength to move things .... The frame on the floor is a titled one, so thats a build from the frame up. Feels good to be back , for a month I could only sit and do very light work. Which worked out well, I had a 1960's 5tube radio kit I had laying around for about 30 years. Seemed like a good time to do it. And gave me a reminder of how great printed circuit boards are.... Then got into some light machine work to rehab with, under the view of the radio , is a miniature Lathe . It came from a kit I picked up about 15 years ago.
Back to the frame, its a 2000 , taking the 91 /50Kmile and its rear frame / front end / 91's exh. sys / and all the plastic from a 2002.
PS- I finally have a set of Avon/cobra/chrome tires for my bike. What an ordeal, (backorder/backorder/ on and on for over 7weeks. Seems Avon no longer makes the rear tire. I had to search and found over 3 in stock at Revzilla . They delivered in less than a week. So Now that I have tires and all my service parts, I am left with little to no room to work.
Once I can get a helper over I need to remove a 02/engine/main-frame , from the lift and get the 91 up on it. It was so well taken care of that it was a shame to have sat under a tarp for 1 season. No frozen fastners / good anti-freeze , fairly clean oil.
It has a super - brace on it that I will sell, I use boots on my tubes and can't use it.
So I hope not to have too many parts to find for this build , other than exh/gaskets and wheel bearings.
It good to be alive at 65,
Gene

Hmmm, you're right. I saw 900 and thought that was it. This guy had a 500 cc 2-stroke and then I thought he traded up to a 900 cc 2-stroke, but perhaps it was a 750. It was definitely a 2-stroke and could have sworn it was a 900.

Whatever it was, it seemed he spent nearly as much time on 1 wheel as he did 2 ;-)
