Cobra Luggage Rack
Looking for opinions on this addition to my 2017 1700. I’m a little wary of this for several reasons. First it says it alone weighs 8 lbs, just adding that to the trunk lid that already seems a bit weak and flimsy seems like there would be little weight left for actual luggage. I bought this bike with the intent to do some longer tours and being that my wife will be with me I could really use the storage. My second concern is that the trunk clamps that hold the lid down are also kind of weak and I’m afraid of damaging them as they would be expensive and problematic to fix.
If and of you have this part or another suggestion I would appreciate your opinion. Thanks Steve G

Re: Cobra Luggage Rack
I used a Yamaha rack (from the royal star venture) and bought a bestem bag ($40.00) designed for the luggage rack
we use it for light weight clothing (around 10 lbs) and have never had an issue with it. it has been on my bike since 2010 and over 60,000 kms (40,000 miles)

Re: Cobra Luggage Rack
I have a cobra luggage rack on my 2014 voyager, there is no way it weighs 8lbs..!! 3lbs at the most,if that.high quality chrome, you will have to drill through your top lid, which can be a little intimidating, but ,measure, measure, and measure again, and you will be fine

Re: Cobra Luggage Rack
I've had my Cobra rack and saddle bag covers on my 2012 since 2012. Hate to say it but have had about 20 lbs of gear on top of trunk and have had no issues whatsoever
Quality if metal and chrome, hardware is top notch.

Re: Cobra Luggage Rack
I have the Kuryakin universal model on my 2009 Voyager, I don't overload it, but I am SURE I have had more than 8 pounds of stuff on it. On really long rides, carry a CamelBack full of Ice,and the bike cover, never had any problems with it. It only took about 2 hours to install it, (110 minutes to get the courage to drill the holes, 10 minutes to install it). Use steel strips inside the trunk for the bolts to go through, that way you will never crack the top box lid.
If I may suggest, get a trailer hitch installed, and then a package shelf to plug into it. We carry two roll around suitcases we got at Costco, That leaves the top box for Wife's purse and my Ham radio. My Voyager IS a trike, so we do also have a trunk for other stuff......But those two suitcases we just bungee cord them on the rear rack, then take them off when we get to a hotel. Everything else but the helmets and my Ham Radio, can just stay on the bike.

Re: Cobra Luggage Rack
Can anyone tell me if there is a model number for the Cobra Luggage rack that will fit my 2021 Voyager? Any other racks that may fit will be appreciated.
Thanks

Pictured is my bike with rack from Kuryakin. About $160. Very happy with it.

Re: Cobra Luggage Rack
Well I did buy mine in 2017 so I guess that's somewhat expected. Bummer.
