Backfiring engine

Post by paulezy »

Hello I have not been on here for awhile. I had a kidney transplant 3 years ago and it slowed my riding and had to let my 1987 1200 sit for awhile. Anyway, I put some fresh gas in her today and it has started backfiring between shifts and when I pull the throttle back and let it go. Any suggestions for what it might be?
thanks
Paul

paulezy, check for exhaust leaks, they can sometimes cause backfiring. :thk:
I would also run a couple tanks of seafoam treated gas through it .
Does it idle OK? :hmm:

It idles pretty good. it does have some timing chain clatter noise at low rpm. Yep I just put seafoam in this tank, but i didn't drive it very far. I will put some miles on it this week and get back to you.

Did you drain the old gas out of the carb bowls?
