New but old RE: fuel gauge

I have searched but found not what I was looking for. On my old bike, a concours C10, I was able to add a 220 ohm resistor into the fuel gauge circuit to have the gauge be more accurate. Has anyone done this or does it even make a difference on the 1200 or can it be done?

The fuel gauge is really a simple Voltmeter/Ammeter(unlikely to be an Ammeter, but possible). Adding any resistance, inline with the sending unit, will lower the voltage/amperage reading on the gauge (the needle will read "lower" on the gauge, with the resistor inline). This may/may not make it more "accurate". I guess I would call Carl Leo to check with him. It should not be necessary, though.

On my '93, the fuel gauge reads too low: it is just above "E", when I have 2-3 gallons left in the tank. So when I fill it, thinking I'm dangerously low on fuel, I find that I really had 2-3 gallons (86-129 miles!) left! I check this margin of error, periodically, to make sure it is still true, though. I like my margin of error being on the larger side, as there is no "reserve" petcock in my XII's tank... Cheers!

Rather than the resistor being inline , on the Connie it was across positive and negative so it slowed the needle down as it were so when the gauge hit the red It was close to turning the petcock. right now on the 1200 I bury the needle below the red before the light comes on .. I know I can just follow the odometer but I like things to work ....its just me lol

On my '99,when the guage goes down past empty,I know I have 30-40 miles before the light comes on,and 50 miles till empty.
On the Cushman,I have about 100+ mile range,so I better be filing up avery 100.
