Starter problems

I have a 2012 Vulcan Voyager 1700 the starter started to drag I changed the Batt as it was the original. The new Batt didn’t help was talking to the dealer he said to pull the starter apart and check for caked on oil bike has only 34000 Km the starter was a mess magnets stuck to the stator caked oil everywhere changed starter work fine new starter is 700.00 so bought a used one for now I suspect the oil shaft seal failed. Maybe starter location behind the rear cylinder not good due to heat. Anyways anyone else had this issue
