Gertrude Gets a Bath

Post by GrandpaDenny »

Thought I'd share a rare picture of her truly clean:

Unfortunately, this pic also shows the (repaired) damage from last week's crash. Repaired to the point of being glued back together, that is.

It certainly is. Yesterday I did a mission, a Ceremony for the Unattended at Washington's Crossing National Cemetary. 12 veterans who didn't have anyone show up for them when they died. There was a 75 bike escort from Chester, PA with some of the cremains.

I've been a member of PGR since I think January, and recently became a Ride Captain. My first RC mission was a long one: flag line at the service, then the loading of the hearse, escort to the cemetery, and flag line at the interrment ceremony.

It is an honor and a privilege to be able to serve, to give something back. For decades I ignored and hid my veteran status.

Just a note to brag on my daughter. She's in her third week at Parris Island. In a letter from last week, she says it's "quite fun". She's gotten ITs in the sandpit for the offense of not getting enough ITs. Today, it's a pre-dawn forced march in drizzle, martial arts, and a bunch of other stuff (I don't recognize the acronyms). I'm looking forward to seeing what she's become at her graduation in January.

In her letter, she talked about getting six vaccinations, but said the Corpsmen were "super nice" and even "let us talk". I was a Corpsman and still think Marine life is the lowest form of life -- but I might need to keep future jarhead talk to myself.

..G 'Paw, Nails.. thank you both for your service!!!! I was a lowly USAF '63-67...
we were pretty much civilians and treated as such.. MUCH respect for those
that really served!!!! UTMOST respect for those that served in the 'Nam
mudhole.. that place ruined MANY lives....

My heart has been with PGR for many years... don't do much now,
really don't like group riding these days, and they are a real group!!!
