Voyager XII Drivers Floorboards

Post by garbal »

Good afternoon fellow Voyager lovers.

SO it' new years eve and I had nothing better to do in -30 degree Celsius weather than to install my recently found

Drivers Floorboard Accessory kit Kawasaki Part number K53002-015B.

Now, I know the question here is "where did you find them?". Well... let me tell you what you seekers probably already know about them...

they are made out of unobtanium.

Tried every dealer, every after marketer, online shops that specialize in aftermarket parts etc... NOT A CHANCE.

Enter Mr. Joe Covington... my new best friend... who happened to have a set that he was not going to use... down in Texas

where it was a "balmy 83 degrees out". :-D

We danced a little dance, went back and forth trying to find affordable shipping from Texas To Saskatchewan Canada... and success

They arrived at my door in less than a week.

Not sure what to expect I opened the box to find a complete kit... fasteners, instructions and all... in what appears to be as new condition. Much

better than expected... because hey... you don't know what to expect these days right... not everyone's idea of "mint" is the same!~

Now, the reason for my writing this is simply because I have never been able to find any good information on these or for that matter...

good pictures of what they look like up close. And... well... to give a great man a shout out!

So... Here you are... up close pictures of a pair of unicorns.

I want to thank Joe for his persistence and his willingness to put up with all my questions and concerns. He really came through like the

professional that he is. I mean this in the most masculine way possible... Love ya man!! (insert bro hug).

As it is -30 in the dead of winter here in this arctic wasteland where the air hurts your face... I won't be riding for a few months but I sure am

looking forward to trying these out.

One thing I noticed about them ... first impressions as it were... is your feet definitely sit up higher. Your knees are probably about 1 to 2 inches

higher... (This is not a scientific measurement... just a guess) the heel/toe arrangement is a little off for those of you that are used to Harleys...

but... I'm sure the next long trip I take on this bike is going to be much better without the dreaded peg foot cramp!

If any of you have any questions... please ask... want more pictures... same.

To The Technicals: Installation... Left side... remove shifter, two bolts remove peg, install boards install new heel/toe shifter.

Right side... two bolts, remove peg, move brake lever up 2 cogs. Install boards (two bolts) and you're done! Very easy...

Had I read the instructions like NO MAN DOES... I'd have probably done it in 20 minutes start to finish... figuring it out

myself took about 28 minutes. (again, not a scientific measurement of time... just a best guess).

Not sure why the pictures are cockeyed but if you click on them they will "right side up" again.

All the best to y'all and Happy New Year from Canada! (where did I mention it was -30 today... -38 Last night!!! Yuck! ) :help:

Good deal!

I want to suggest keeping the peg parts. I bought my XII with floorboards, but honestly like the pegs better. (I had trouble finding pegs!)

Your ride. Make it work for you!

I'm also 6'2" and my knees are really really really close to the inner fairing, as can be seen in my profile picture.

It's great to hear the community is coming through. I'm 6 3 and prefer the boards on my 93 myself. I feel like it gives me room to move my feet around while cruising down the road. I'd agree to keep the stock pegs so that you always have the option to go back, but I'm sure when the weather let's up, you will enjoy them.

For those of you with floobards..... I'm thinking there's not a lot of 'maneuvering room' even with pegs, must be worse with floorboards (by 'maneuvering', I mean: while having to maneuver the bike with your feet)

Totally agree.

For me, the floorboards seriously impacted my ability to ride because they're higher and they kept my feet too far apart (mostly the left one -- I could put the right one onto stuff to bring it in, even if that meant making it higher yet). Also, the heel/toe shifter wasn't long enough for my boot to fit between the two, so I had to cock it goofy.

My other complaint is that it was more difficult for me to use the foot controls, especially the brake, with floorboards. I mean modulating it, not just stomping on it.

For me, my XII became a lot more maneuverable after I went back to pegs, especially in those times when you can feel the suspension really working. I kept the boards for a while, but I'm never going back. I ride on the balls of my feet ... most of the time, but especially when I'm rock-n-rolling. Sometimes I almost stand on my feet.

I have zero use for "maneuvering" my feet to the front or back of the floorboard. (I want to maneuver the bike instead.) That just means I have to move my foot at least twice to use those controls. If I'm going to do that, I'll just put them on the highway pegs. And now that I have the Airhawk, I no longer need to put my feet on the passenger boards, either.

It's always a bit of a surprise when I first get on my bike, at how well it fits me. Especially the backrest -- exactly where I want it. But I'm mighty fond of those T140 handlebars, too.

That's just me. Make your bike your own.

I have floorboards on other bikes and quite like them, prefer them even, but there's such little room on my ZN Voyager. From the pictures, it looks like there's not much room on the Voyager II either.
