Trunk removal

Is removing the trunk on my '86 as simple as undoing the four nuts in the bottom of the trunk? I need to get to the sliding mechanism and clean/lubricate it. My trunk is stuck in one position.

Well, I got it off, cleaned/lubed, and put back together yet STILL will not move. I wonder if I have it tightened down too much and is binding somewhere. Oh well, I'll get it to work.

Did you lube the latch mechanism? Sometimes it's hard to get that to move all the way to release the trunk so it can slide.

As well as proper lubrication mentioned by GrandpaDenny , the 2 unavailable nylon glides, # 13070, on the trunk bottom need the 2 metal collars, #92027, to prevent being crushed. These are on the "Accessory (Trunk)" illustrations of any of the online suppliers. Perhaps your collars are missing, I can't say but this could be one source of binding.
The metal bracket which the 2 rear trunk mounting bolts fasten to, and which is the adjustable sliding portion of the trunk mounting setup, has 4 nylon glides, #13070 and 4 metal collars, # 92143 as shown on any "Accessory (Trunk Bracket)" illustration.
If any of the above is missing or damaged by over tightening perhaps that may contribute to your situation.
Too bad the 1986 model was the only year to use the plastic wing 8mm bolts, #92002-1672, for the 2 rear mounting locales. The use of these wing bolts makes removal of the trunk so much simpler.

LOL, one of those wing bolts is still in her but the other is just a bolt. I am wondering if the thick wire bundle and/or the white plastic wire connector, or both, are causing the thing to bind up. There's noooooot a lot of slack in the wires to move to test the theory.
