Hello to all,
I picked up a neglected 2001 XII last fall at an auction. It was a rash decision and I didn't have an opportunity to look it over before bidding. After I got it home and cleaned it up, I realized that I didn't have the time or desire to make her roadworthy. I see that there is a classified section on here, but it doesn't have many listings. Do any of you have advice on selling a bike that needs to be trailered to her new home? I was thinking Cycletrader, but I wanted to get your opinions first.
Thank you,
Tony

Re: Selling Advice
I would suggest FB Marketplace, and/or Craigslist (free; Face-to-face between buyer and seller -- best to meet in a busy, public place, to conclude the transaction). You could post it on e-Bay, but I do not know how that works. Cheers!

Re: Selling Advice
It is too nice to part out IMHO, but it will need some work before it would be safe for the road.
The top concerns:
1. Front brake cylinder not releasing.
2. Replace both tires.
3. Replace both fork seals.
4. Starts and idles, dies when the throttle is moved.
All fluids and filters should be replaced, probably vacuum lines too. I'm guessing #4 will require a good carb cleaning from sitting so long. There is one crunch to the fairing, but the rest of the body looks good.
My biggest fear is selling it to someone who would try to get it on the road before it is safe.

Re: Selling Advice
I don't claim any expertise -- this is just an opinion.
I bought a bike that needed a lot of work but was rideable. At around $1700 (I don't remember exactly), I spent too much. Especially since I fetched it in my truck, an all-day drive. Lots of folks here found better deals for less than a grand.
Others here have had difficulty selling pristine bikes for three-four grand.
Most of us think XIIs are great bargains: for not much money, you can end up with a great touring ride. That works against you when selling.
Maybe that helps.

Re: Selling Advice
Thank you for all the advice, it is extremely helpful! I will list it locally for under $1K and see how it goes.
