ok i got my first street bike about nov of last year and you guessed it, its the 1983 zn1300 beast this bike has 44,ooo and change miles on it it sat in a storage locker from 2007 to 2021 it looks great and everything i got it home cleaned the tank out ( it was stored with a full tank of gas) got it fired up and it was running pretty good till a couple weeks ago i started it up went back in the house to let it warm up came back out 15 min later or so the bike was clattering like crazy.... i shut it down and hit the books to date i have the valve cover off and checked compression all cylinders are 90 psi except #2 at 120.. i can not get a feeler gauge(.203mm the thinnest one i have) under the cam lobe on #1 at tdc compression stroke .......now is this worth a rebuild or can i even get new parts for this motor or should i scrap it out???

Finding new valves and shims can be a challenge.
check ebay for parts. you may find everything you need.
I'm a big fan of the ZN1300 so I may be a little prejudice, but I feel if you have the skillset and tools every one of them is worth saving

Your Kawasaki dealer should still be able to get valve shims if they don't have them. They don't need to be new as there not a wear item per se. I would get the special lools for changing them from eBay though. I agree with the above these are worth fixing.

The one you got you can't get a feeler Guage under needs to be changed to a 5 thousanths inch thinner shim & re measured to figure what size you truely need. the process is to get a measurement on each valve & write it down. then remove the shim & read the size on the under side. then take both numbers to figure the proper shim to give the correct clearance.

Shims are available new @ $20.00 each babbitts online has the parts lookup for these. It will tell you what you can get new.

$20 a shim is outrageous. Plenty of shims for a lot, lot less than that on eBay. In addition, other Yamaha's, some Triumphs, and even Toyotas use the same diameter shims so there are lots of shims out there.
