*SOLD* 2000 Voyager XII for sale Central Indiana

Post by gtem »

Bike is sold!

Having just finally finished going through the whole bike (with help from folks on this excellent forum!), I've decided to sell my 2000 Kawasaki Voyager XII. Only 23k miles, I'd say the bike is in excellent condition. The bike has been gone through thoroughly and received all new fluids and filters (engine oil, coolant, final drive lube, fork oil), brand new Shinko 777HD tires, carbs thoroughly cleaned and sync'd. The bike starts, idles, runs, shifts, rides great. All accessories including the 4 speaker stereo and cruise control work. Adjustable air suspension front and rear. Cosmetically it's excellent, the original paint is as close to "like new" as I've seen on a 20+ year old bike. All plastic/fiberglass in great shape, all the latches, etc work great. I bought the Voyager last November and went through it over the winter, have ridden it for a few months and it's been fun to try this class of bike on for size but I am realizing big touring bikes just aren't my thing, I simply don't have the time with a young family to put serious miles down. Clean Indiana title in my name. Asking $2600

Man I wish you were closer, I'd snatch your arm off for that. I've invested over $1000 more in my bike and it doesn't look that nice, nor it it road worthy yet. :-( Someone's gonna get a killer deal.

Well go down to the little airport and buy yourself a little one-way ticket.

Denny, Neal will swing by and pick you up and give you a ride west. My wife says the back seat is comfortable!

I just made arrangements for Scott to do that instead, given that his loop would be about 3000 miles shorter and my bike doesn't run anyway.

But on the plus side, I might've finally turned a corner to get some crap out of the way in the shop. That would make me just 1) a swap of both gas tanks in my truck and 2) building a trailer to haul bikes ... away from wheeling the XII in. Maybe this summer. Baby steps, I reckon.

It'd be a train, I avoid flying. I'd rather have COVID than fly. Seriously. Anyway, we'll see what I get when I get the settlement. One of the few things I like about the new bike is the lighter weight, so I'm seriously considering a ZG1000 Concours. I was also looking at C14s, but they're just too much. Too much power, too much to insure, too much maintenance. I don't need that kind of performance. I've sat upon a friend's C14 and didn't like it. I also sat upon a C10 he was working on, and it looked and felt and sounded so much like Gertrude (it was one of the older models with the dash like the Voyager XII). The difference between the C10 and the Voyager isn't that much, and the Concours is 150 pounds lighter. So, we shall see.

I may also just get another VXII. That decision is a few months at least away yet.

I grew up riding long-distance trains -- dad worked for the RR. I had 9 round trips between LA and Chicago (via Yellowstone) before 2nd grade. (For the longest time, I thought Pullman was another name for a Black man. No offense intended.)

Today, Amtrak runs within 1/4-mile of my house. So a couple years ago, I got all nostalgic and went for it. My "neighborhood" Amtrak station has to be one of the best in the nation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamy%2C_New_Mexico -- it has a great taproom https://www.yelp.com/biz/lamy-junction-lamy-2). I've recently gotten on there heading west to LA and again heading east to Maine.

Honestly, it sucked. Airports are suddenly looking a lot better. Driving looks a lot better, yet. (I hate motels as much as airports -- I'd rather sleep in the car at rest areas.) I look forward to getting my XII back on the road and hitting campgrounds.

Well, riding a through train seems like a swell way to accomplish that. I was 36 hrs in coach in the middle of the pandemic; and it's a thousand wonders I didn't catch COVID.

But on the plus side, I sat next to a woman who got off at about 3AM in Nowhere, Virginia to check herself into prison -- the same one Martha Stewart went to. She spent the whole night emailing her boyfriend using my phone as a hotspot. Well, around telling some astonishing stories ... another sleepless night.

And... thanks to an inconsiderate, self-centered, selfish friend (perhaps ex-friend) who didn't bother to stay away from anybody or even tell us she was sick, a bunch of us now have COVID. Seems to be pretty mild this time. Runny nose, headache, sore throat, that's about it.
