Goo melting out of windshield
Parked my 96 for a couple weeks after a particularly hot couple weeks here in jersey and when i took the cover off today i find this goop running all down the side of my bike. Is this just a bad repair from prior owner or is this a known problem?

Re: Goo melting out of windshield
I’ve never actually seen a voyager windshield with trim around the edge, I would presume it’s whatever glue is holding the trim on that is caused that issue. Maybe try something like mineral spirits that won’t damage the windshield itself to clean it up?

Re: Goo melting out of windshield
I've seen this before. I believe it is the foam tape's glue partly melting with both age and heat. The trim is secured around the plastic windshield's edge, using double-sided foam tape.
Most Voyagers do not have any trim around the edges of the windshield. If the trim is coming loose, or off, it may be necessary to remove it, then clean it up with something like Goof-Off solvent/cleaner, if turpentine/mineral spirits does not do the job.
You can search the Internet for black, double-sided, foam tape, if you want to re-install the trim. It will be a lot of fiddly work, with a learning curve.
You could also fill the trim with clear silicone, using a caulking gun. After you press it around the edge of the windshield, you will need to wipe away the excess silicone that oozes out, to avoid making a mess on the edges -- this should last 20 years. Up to you. I wish you the best of luck. Cheers!

Re: Goo melting out of windshield
I’m gonna get a new slipstream windshield and be done with it. I spent two hours in the tub scrubbing the glue with every chemical i could find and can’t get it to release so, time to start fresh

They didn't. Some PO added it. S'pose they thought it would "look cool" nevermind it being right in the field of vision.

Re: Goo melting out of windshield
Slipstreamer are good windshields. I have them on 2 of my voyagers. They hold up well. Better than OEM.

Re: Goo melting out of windshield
Be cautious regarding the mounting screws and especially the steel collars as the OEM windscreen is thinner than some aftermarket windscreens. This condition may/can lead to the collars being at the stress point of the plexiglas/acrylic when the screws are being tightened down on a non OEM windscreen install, and the collar is not long enough to bottom out when the windscreen is tight against the cowling. If one does not account for this windscreen/collar bottoming out length sometimes a crack may/can occur at the point of contact between the collar, the windscreen and the cowling.
Most times I suspect this doesn't occur but it has happened to me for the reason I outlined.
Just a heads up,
Dave

Re: Goo melting out of windshield
Its on the bike, i just snugged up the screws good, via the ol german torque spec. So far it feels like theres way less air hitting my head with the new slipstreamer. Definitely worth the $140
